No you don't need to immersed the leaves in water to produce plants. You can do leaf cutting on the surface of peat/ sand mix. Also you can do root cutting with species such as binata, capensis.

So you also have to hack them into pieces?

If the leaf or the root is long enough, yes you can hack them in about 3" pieces. I do this with both filiformis subspecies.

I have some Adelae and Capensis leaves on a 50/50 mix of perlite and peat. So far I see little action after almost 4 weeks in a clear prop container.

Looks like I'll try it in LFS next. thanks for the experiment! Interesting!

Sigh.. the Adelae leaf that i propagated out already dried out without sprouting any new plantlet, im using a layer of spagnum moss, then a thin layer of peat moss

Did you cover the pot to increase huminity?

No, Adelae does not and Neither does Capensis by MY findings.

Oops.. i didn't. I thought the environment was humid enough.*biggrin2*

Try few leaf, is better...
