Re: D. paradoxa - propagation via offshoots
Hi Cindy, pai seh:tongue:, I'm not qualified yet to put in any suggestion yet, because I just tried this not too long ago, still don't see anything yet. I did the same as what Tarence did, take the leaves with the white part attached (like VFT), lay them in peat or spahgnum moss. I was taught by an experienced grower.
I have one showing offshoot too. And yes, my pot is small like you said, could it be the reason the offshoot appeared from the plant? Hmm... will observe more on this. Casey, I heard D. paradoxa won't self pollinate, unless you have two plants from two different mother plants that flower at the same time. |
Re: D. paradoxa - propagation via offshoots
Hmm...then must wait for Lim to give us his input. Yoohooo....

Re: D. paradoxa - propagation via offshoots
TS & my method works. ( boast boast, heheh ) Lau ( the quiet one ) has a see-thru plastic container with about 15-20 paradoxas germinating from leaf `tuggings`. He plants it in the same way as us but covers it lightly to maintain humidity.

Re: D. paradoxa - propagation via offshoots
Tarence/TS,
For D. paradoxa leaf propagation, may I know where you put those leaf? In a bright place that dont have direct sunlight? or same place as mother plant? |
Re: D. paradoxa - propagation via offshoots
Yes, put in bright place that don`t have direct sunlight. And keep humidity high. Should see some small plantlets within 2 - 3 weeks. All the best.

Re: D. paradoxa - propagation via offshoots
HI!
I have four D. paradoxa here but they do not grow well. Could you teach me how cultivate this plant. Thanks. |
Re: D. paradoxa - propagation via offshoots
Marcos : you are experiencing winter now in brazil ? are your paradoxas kept in a greenhouse or left outside plse ? i`m not too good at dormancy procedures if that is what`s happening to yours as we grow ours in constant tropical climate.
what i do : full sun, temp about 26 - 32 deg C, use tray method for water i do notice that some of my paradoxas go into dormancy but i just leave them as they are & they somehow recover. |
Re: D. paradoxa - propagation via offshoots
hi my paradoxa flowering also but i cut out the flower since my plant getting weak now.
My plant offshoot before but never thought will be a baby plant there so i just ignore it. so far , no more offshoot for me. i did try pull out the leaf with attached the white XXX ... but can any succes story yet.. could be my humidity not good enough.. cindy , do update your plant photo ya .. so we can see how the offshoot can do..:1thumbup::1thumbup: hehehe |
Re: D. paradoxa - propagation via offshoots
Just to share how bad the offshoots can look following their removal from the mother plant. I just push them into some media and don't bag them up.
But if you look carefully, the centre is green and new leaves are appearing. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t..._offshoot2.jpg http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t..._offshoot3.jpg An offshoot taking off and producing dew. ^_^ http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t..._offshoot4.jpg |
