First Cross
Here's my first attempt at hybridizing Nepenthes. It's N. Splendiana x mixta. The plant is about 3 years old. It's not the greatest looking pitcher, but even an ugly baby is beautiful in the eyes of its parents.

Re: First Cross
Wonderful cross............Amazing.....I've yet to ever make a cross of my own....Does the pitchers get some size on it? What are the biggest you have ever made? And also you should make more of this cross its just beautiful...The cross u probally made N thorelii x (stenophylla x mixta) so far is still so small about 2-3 cm big...Any hopes you have a adult plant of that cross? :)

Re: First Cross
That's absolutely beautiful! I thought it was a eustachia hybrid at first, as it follows the same sort of color patterns. Very vibrant colors :) .

Re: First Cross
Jk, you called that ugly? It stunning pitcher, well done. How big is it?

Re: First Cross
Impressive. I can't wait to see your hybrids as you learn more about hybridizing.

Re: First Cross
To answer some questions, the length of the pitcher in the photo is about 5 inches. I made that cross by chance just because those plants happened to be blooming at the time. Kentosaurs, the seeds of N. (thorelii x stenophylla) x mixta that you received in the giveaway were from the first batch I made of that cross, so it's a mystery what the pitchers will look like. It might take a few years to grow a mature pitcher, but that's the fun of hybridizing.

Re: First Cross
Hi Jk,
Another thing to ask you since you have the experience in hybridizing. When to pollinate the female flowers after they open.Well, you can't pollinate the flowers soon after they open. They need time right? So when is the exact time? BTW,I love the cross Jk.If i'm not mistaken,is xSplendiana (thorelli x maxima) x maxima? Thanx! |
