Preview of my Adult Northiana Picture

Finally, after 2 years of keeping this adult plant, it pitchers!!!

This is really a very picky plant, I have shifted it so many times. Now it is enjoying its place in the sun.

Here's some pictures I took last week, couldn't wait, so I took a few first.

You don't know how much suspense it was waiting for it to grow the pitcher because Northiana is so sensitive that anything wrong in the environment then it will stop growing.

This morning it finally opened half a lid, I'll take a picture tomorrow, the upper area of the lips is really awesome, everything I hoped it would be!

Meanwhile, you just have to bear with some preview pics.

Developing a really close relationship with the amp green.

The plant itself. Notice the tendrils everywhere?

Tried to measure the size of the unopened pitcher last Friday. About 4 inches already.

All I can say is that, it is MOMENTS that these that made me keep CPs.

Rgds,
Isaac

David,

Yup, it's quite big, would consider it as Adult and it's a female too. It's the side shoot that is producing all the pitchers now. Actually, the tendril all goes the same direction, downward! Maybe it's the angle of how i took the picture. I have another pitcher opening at the same time on the right right too.

Maybe five inches and hopefully can still grow further like some Neps. This morning it opened half of the lid, didn't take the picture. The lips is very attractive. It's not like those baby Northiana pitcher lips. This is real lips that makes Northiana so special.

Morning Sun(3hrs max) only, since I'm growing it on balcony of my condo unit. The rest of the day is probably bright lights and not direct sun.

Thats fantastic Isaac!I'm getting my Northiana too from Fauzi.Hope mine grows just like yours. If it's a female, why not pollinate it with something else. There is viking pollen available in the Market place.
Good luck!!

I'm so happy to see the pitcher opened, still not totally, but it's such a beauty. I wish the peristome is wider, maybe it will as it matures.

Here's some pictures I took this morning (29 July 08).

Close look, see the upper part of the peristome.

NICE!! I dont know how long mine will take...

Any picture of the overall northiana plant? The leaf span....

How long it took to pitcher normally? For it to acclimatise? years? or months?

The leaf Span is about 1.5 feet or less but the tendrils are easily 2 feet or longer.

Took me 2 years to get it to pitcher (first time) in my balcony. That's why it was really a relieve and joy when the pitcher finally developed and opened. All this while I only see tendrils that doesn't form pitcher (even 2 feet long tendrils). God knows how many tendrils I waited. Now the one actively producing pitchers is the side shoot, I suspect the main shoot will eventually die off or stunted.

This is how it was last June (2007). (6-8 inches pot)

This is the plant whole plant. (About 2 feet height). As for size comparison, the pot it sits in is about 6-8 inches pot.

Wah Issac, your N. northiana is so beautiful, make me jealous. Mine used to grow pitchers once but small, I shifted it to a more shady place to see if the pitcher grow bigger, but no!!! No more pitchers ever grown since then!!! I quickly moved it back to a sunny spot, now it started to show sign of pitcher forming, no pitchers to post yet.

TS,

They like a lot of SUN. Same happened to me, they refused to pitcher when it's at a shady location.

I was informed by a friend that the Northiana's pitcher will keep transforming.

Here's the evidence! Look at the peristome and the spots on the pitcher.

He even mentioned that the pitcher is maybe still capable of growing further twice the original size.

Re: Preview of my Adult Northiana Picture

thanks TS, this is my first time also. I'm just as excited.

Aliamys,

the pictures you posted are of Northiana in the wild, they will have different pitchers naturally(I can tell those are easily 1 feet).

Maybe when the plant matures, it could produce similar pitchers.

Re: Preview of my Adult Northiana Picture

So how long it will take to produce that kinda pitchers in the wild?

very much depend on the plant and environment. Plant smaller than Isaac's produce larger and longer pitchers in the wild.
