Ok. then may I ask what you and Ali saw in that plant that points to N. talangensis as one of the parentage?

Re: Guessing game...

I'll go for amp giant red. can't seem to see any other parentage in this plant... heh heh... but then again I am no expert in identifying. :)

The leaves look more shinier....

Re: Guessing game...

Come on... Ali , is that the only feature you based on to come to your conclusion ??

Now I'll show you these pics....

The leaves on the left is the mystery plant, on the right is the pure N. ampullaria

Pitcher on top from the mystery plant, the bottom is the pure N. ampullaria

Now, what is this mystery plant?? *biggrin2*

Re: Guessing game...

hmm ... I don't se much difference in the leaves. I'd go also for pure amp but maybe it's amp x ventricosa.

Pure amp xD My green speckle leaves are shiny

kentosaurs 14th March 2010 04:55 PM

Re: Guessing game...

I always thought talangensis has very flat peristromes....If it is an amp x talangensis i would be suprise because i don't see the talangensis in it...

I just took a look at a pure talangensis's leaves and their very thin like a ventricosa's

Re: Guessing game...

Ok.... drum rolling.....

It's BE's N. ampullaria x talangensis . Those who saw it or heard about it like Ali already have that idea engraved in his mind. So, any tiny clue will point to N. talangensis (no offence Ali) even though it's not conclusive.

I was disappointed when I saw the plants and I called Fauzi to confirm if he mistakenly send me the wrong nep... I admit, I rushed the order without looking at how the plants look like once I heard BE is releasing such cross.... too exicted. *biggrin2*

According to BE, this is the best selected TC clone for this cross. From the looks of it, the N. ampullaria trait totally overtaken the N. talagensis. I got 3 plants, 1 is the TC (shown here) and the other is the seed grown origin (still too small to tell but the leaves is reddish color).

I really hope the history of MT's N. veitchii x hurrelliana (MT finally admitted the mistake and they now changed to N. veitchii "Pink") don't repeat here... if not there'll be a lot of upset customers...

So the conclusions....

1) If this is the true cross, maybe the plants is still too young to see N. talangensis traits (I'm crossing my fingers)

2) Maybe the tropical L/L growing condition inhibit the trait of N. talangensis to develope as it was overtaken by N. ampullaria?? (I'm purely speculating, without sciencetific proof and support)

3) This cross is just not that interesting even with N. ampullaria and N. talangensis as parent. Perhaps the reverse will yield a more desireable hybrid.

Please feel free to comment. Thanks. :1thumbup:

Re: Guessing game...

That's really astonishing if you look at other crosses with talangensis. It's mostly very dominant.

Re: Guessing game...

though i didn't see the picture Robert,i thought why would you ask to identify an amp since everyone would be able to tell it and one thing came to my mind where you were telling me that the amp x talang looks like pure amp.

It's my fault though,i should have make this game more interesting.

Sorry Rob!Just over excited.

Haha Ali, just enjoy, you done nothing wrong. *biggrin2*

This hybrid looked so much like N. ampullaria to me, so I decided to share and see how many ppl agree on this. I really hope as it mature it'll show more of the N. talangensis trait because I got 3 of them... :sweating:

Urrr.... I still willing to take the chance... if it's not N. amp x talangensis, I will just end up with dark red amps.. which are also nice *biggrin2*

Minh,
Thanks for the link, looks like I'm not the only one that have doubts.
