Some of my platycerium

This thread has been quiet for sometime and just to spice it up with some picts of my plants. Mostly are old giants and I'm getting worried as they are getting bigger and bigger.

bifurcatum with it's root ball about 3' diameter and still growing........

My old ridleyii...I think it's abt 6-8 yrs with me.

holtumii. I must thank Tarence for this plant as it's a gift from him. Currently it measures 5' across.

elephantotis. This is the long form variant. The fertile frond itself is reaching up to 2' long.

These plants sure have a great sentimental value Andy. I have one vinicoloured raff that has been with me ever since I started growing Nepenthes, now it's close to 8 years. Day in day out you water the plant and watch it grow and pitcher.

Your ridleyii and holtumii are crazy beautiful specimens I must say. Your bifurcatum, you can start dividing the babies and grow them separately. Or you can shift it to another tree which can support its bulk better. Is it hanging on a small tree trunk? It looks alarmingly heavy...*biggrin2*

Oh....dividing my bifurcatum!:spinning:....Then I'll have hundreds of plants. More chores!!! Better not. I better let it be as it is. Do you keep any?

If you're talking about those in shopping malls in KL, I think thy are P. bifurcatum.

You guys kow where to get holtumii and redleyii? Been looking for them. Sometimes can find redleyii but the price is just crazy. But I've never seen holtumii. Maybe I did see it but don't know it is holtumii... haa, haaa.

Andy, your holtumii is beautiful.

Elephatotis if just spectacular. I think the cher size of it is enough to make you "wow!" I have one given to me by TS but stil a little baby about 2 inches across. Can't wait for it to grow up... But I am cracking my head thinking where to put this giant in my apartment. My window area is just pack with Tills and other oddities.

David, you might want to try Ukay Nursery. There's some ridleyiithere last time I went to check. Big plants though. Have you tried looking at the sg buloh nurseries?

I've looked at Sg. buloh before but did not find holtumii. Found a few ridleyii but very expensive

Re: Some of my platycerium

Thanks David for your compliment. Initially when I received it was in no good condition. Totally different from now. I'm not sure where you can buy a holtumii but I can take you to their natural habitat if you want.*biggrin2*

During the show, there are stalls who sell spores germinated seedlings with roughly 3-4" shield fronds. It goes for abt RM40-60. Some smaller plants go for RM30-35 with 2-3" shield frond. I can lookout for you if you want. I don't know whether Sg Buloh have this kind of stock? Last time when I bought them there, they were available abundantly. It goes for abt RM 30 for a mature plant! I think the seller must have misquoted me!

Alvin, how does the fuzzy looking platy looks like? Further description?

Andy,

Those are ridleyii or holtumi that you say you saw during the show? I was just at Sg. Buloh yesterday. Only saw bifurcatum there. I would be interested if you come across them again. Let me know ya. Thanks a million.
