SSS growlist
Hi, thought i will put up my growlist, while i still have these plants! Some are thriving and growing well:2thumbup:, while others are just surviving or struggling to survive:crying:. Quite a number of these plants are small, so nothing but some leaves and no pitchers! quite a few are in plastic bags too. As for me, i am still learning how to give them the best conditions....living in a condo doesnt allow much space for growing and experimenting.
Most important lesson i learned, think twice and 3 times before getting a highlander that you can barely afford... I learned the hard way. as you can see, still cant resist buying one or two to try out, especially when some of you managed to do it. Thanks for looking... will post some pictures soon.

Re: SSS growlist
That is long list!!!! You even grow all yours plant in yours condo?
|
Re: SSS growlist
Errr, yeah. which is why my wife doesnt appreciate my hobby. so far, they are outside the living spaces...for now. racks are the most useful thing humans have invented, for plant growers! besides fluorescent tubes, of course!

Re: SSS growlist
Now I know why people refer to your growlist as 'jaw dropping'! I'm truly impressed!
How's your terrarium in the office coming along? |
Re: SSS growlist
Wow... very impressive list SSS and you grow all of them in a condo unit... have to pay you a visit someday...
|
Re: SSS growlist
you may be disappointed... some are small tiny things, you may need a magnifying glass!! guess i am an impulsive buyer, my only regrets are when they die!! HAHA.

Re: SSS growlist
Don't worry, we are in the same "shoe"...

Re: SSS growlist
well, that may be difficult, as i may have spent most of the money!! speaking of sungai ara, i stay there too, high up in the hills. it has been very very windy and some neps have their new leaves torn so it means no pitchers for a while. it is quite painful seeing torn leaves but i dont have a lot of room to shift them. the temp can drop to 25 or lower, i think. but though it is dim, it is a good place for airplants. they love the wind, i guess.
|
Re: SSS growlist
Yeah, the wind is crazy these days! A few of my neps. has actually tumbled from their perch - smashed pitchers & broken growing tips. But the wind is very dry, so still need to water more often than usual.
Temp. wise it's always been quite good, that's why Ihave been able to grow my sanguinea without HL condition. It was way cooler 5 years back, before the new developments, used to be able to grow strawberry to fruit. You too are in Sg. Ara? Lemme guess, Desaria? :) |
Re: SSS growlist
yeah, i knew you will get it right! i like it there, it is quiet and the hills are still green enough, for now. the wind is lovely but currently, it is quite a nuisance! and dry, as you said.

Re: SSS growlist
Soon,that's a very long and impressive list.M

Re: SSS growlist
Don't tell me you are in one of the 3 towers? You can actually look down to my property over on your left side :D
Hey, how's your office terrarium? |
Re: SSS growlist
i choose the tower which stands far far away from others for better view and more jungle! yeah, think i can look down to the properties below, including andy's, but of course, they all look the same to me!! hmmm, must train my eye to spot your burmanii from high up....
thanks, ali and kentosaurs, for the kind comments but truth is, i am still learning from all of you here. yeah, the pressure is on to put up some photographic proof, so i think i will snap some shots and put it up this weekend. only the nices ones, of course, and not the tiny ones that may bite the dust anytime soon! need some help in ID too. |
Re: SSS growlist
Soon, actually it's easier to see my place than Andy's:) I'm almost at the same level as you are. Need me to raise a red pirate flag?
Btw, have you been to the waterfall that's between your place and mine? it's sheer heavan! Penang best kept secret! Andif any of your plant looks like biting the dust, they are more than welcome over here at my little garden. |
Re: SSS growlist
You have a three acre plot of land to grow all those plants? Wow!!! When can we raid your place?? With your permission of course.
Athene, the waterfall is no longer a secret not. Tsk! Tsk! |

Re: SSS growlist
ban aik, you will be disappointed if you see my plants all cramped up in a little place. i feel the need to find more space for them! i have always wanted to look into the surrounding hills, they look interesting. my house at tg bungah is also near the leader garden waterfall, barely 500m. so it looks like i be living near waterfalls, haha!!
athene, dont tell me you live in the big house high up in the hills, towering above all the others!! i have been wondering who owns such a big palace. my condo faces the hills directly and they look beautiful and unspoilt. if you do live high up there, the conditions must be perfect, judging by the wonderful plant pictures you put up. by the way, my terranium isnt the greatest but so far, the plants are still alive, and growing slowly. i call it the ICU for the highlanders, though temp only goes to 20C and humidity is about 65%-75%. so, we kept misting the terranium like crazy. surprisingly, my friend's heliamphora is growing well after a near death experience. will promise to put up photos by this weekend as mere words mean nothing! |
Re: SSS growlist
Hey S^3,
Leader Garden, you mean taman Chee Seng? Well, I walk there all the time. I am living in Coastal Towers. |
Re: SSS growlist
Soon,
Did you manage to get the 6 wistuba's plants safely? What are the plants? Clipeata? Choong |
Re: SSS growlist
oh yeah, that wistuba thing has given me lots of palpitations for a good few weeks. my brother, whose knowledge about plants, let alone carnivorous plants, is zero, somehow manage to keep the plants alive for 4 weeks. he wanted to open up the bags as he is worried the plants cant breathe! anyway, manage to get the clipeata, adnata, longifolia, veitchii x lowii, ventricosa x inermis, ventricosa x ovata, in fair condition. dont think i will do this again, i may have a heart attack.... (i choose ventricosa hybrids thinking that the hybrids tend to resemble the other parent a bit more and they are more hardy. do you guys agree?)

Re: SSS growlist
Amazing!!! Large list!!!
