CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
It is sad to tell you all that there is CP thief at Malaysia... It happen to my friend on 30th April. His dog is barked at 3am, but he thought is nothing. And 2 pot CP is missing!!!! The pots taken were the nearest to his front gate. 1 pot CP is replaceable, but, the others is TC sarrasenias that brought from Singapore (there are few sp. inside the pot)!!!!!
So, for those grow CP outdoor... Please be caution!!!! Dont put yours CP reachable from outsider... Dont bring unknown person to yours house, even our intention is to share our hobby!!! CP thief is happen at Singapore few week ago... And now.... :sweating: |
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
Unfortunate, theft seems to be growing along with this hobby. 2 very large and respected growers in the US had very valuable nepenthes stolen from them. Keep a look out on ebay, one thief has already been found there.

Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
I have lost some plants too. They're at my parents place out of town. Most of the time I do not notice them lost until I specifically want to look for that species when someone ask. Usually it's TS... haa, haaa... He'll be asking me, "eh, how's your N. etc. etc..." Then I'll be like... Hmmm... now that you mention it I've not see it in a while.
Then only I realise it's gone. I'll be frantically asking my parents about them and whether they gave that plant away, but they never give my plants away without asking me after the N. sumatrana insident. |
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!

Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
My rafflesiana squat red which is growing very beautifully with almost pitchers in every leaf.Since the plant is getting big,i decide to hang it the very next day i noticed that the pot fell down from the place.
I was alert the next day and saw a guy who is staring at my plants and then coming back again, then again.I hide then and watched what will happen and guess what he climbed up the wall. I caught him and told not to this anymore. He told me that my plants were very beautiful so i gave him a cutting of my ventrata. He promised never to steal again.;)He asked if he can see my collection but i denied for future safety. |
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
OoOoOo i was planning to throw some of my cuttings i made a month or few back at the area all around my apartment maybe under a shade of a tree or something, thinking maybe around the end of the year when i have more cuttings available hehe......I doubt anyone will steal mine..Though i will never know...I'm trying out some of my ventratas and hookerianas maybe 1st...I gotta watch out for thieves :)

Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
Sorry to hear that. It's sad that anything of value can be stolen nowadays. I grew all my neps outdoor, I'm worried as some bonsai belong to my dad got stolen a few times already.

Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
cpnut,
My father-in-law grows lots of Bongsai too and his plants were stolen too. You know what he did? He chain them to the metal rack, each and every pot. He tie a chain around the main trunk. Maybe you can suggest to your dad for his bongsai. Yupe! You better take some precaution to save guard your neps. |
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
Aah,it's a relief that no one in my condo really like CPs(most of them don't know they even exist hahar)except my friend(kind of semi-enemy in swimming).Last time when I came home from school he was in our house and he was touching my VFT .Argh......the nerves.......
|
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
Marvin,
Set a trap at your VFT pots for him, so that next time he touches it when you are not there, some arrows will be shot at him. :sneaky: |
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!

Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
Hope the plant will survive...
|
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
I can't believe people will steal plants of all things. It's sad they probably can't even keep the plants that they stole alive.
|
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
the thief struck in broad daylight, right, casey? the nerve!
how about putting a trap or a few pots of prickly cacti there? |
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
Very sad to hear that KC.
Even if we grow our plants at home, the risk of if being stolen is still very high depending on how much percaution you took to ensure at least some minimal security are implemented.... Better be safe than sorry. |
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
Wow I agree with cacti idea, we can grow it and protech nepenthes.
|
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
i wonder what they can do with the plants they stole from you, I don't think they can sell them at good price, they might even dunno what is the name of the plant they stole.
those stupid fella....... |
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
Really sad and sorry to hear about this casey. This just go to show that nowadays Malaysians are no longer in the dark about sundews and cps. Either that, they just saw the plants and found that it was beautiful and decided to help themselves.
Another suggestion... grow a fence of rattan plants around the perimeter of your home and install bulb wires as well. |
Re: CP Thief at Malaysia!!!!
I think you need to build are big grow house and metal net, that will help you a lot.
