Re: Strath76 Growlist
Nice list you have there. Can you show us some pictures of the following plants below? None of us have these or we only have one or two and it would be great to see pictures of them.
Brocchinia reducta Catopsis bertroniana Genlisea violacea Heliamphora nutans Drosera prolifera Roridula gorgonias |
Re: Strath76 Growlist
No worries David. My Heliamphora and prolifera are only small but I will take soem photo's. The Genlisea isn't flowering at the moment so again not much to see but I will see if I can get a decent shot of the leaves.
I posted a photo of the Roridula on the old forum so this may have been transfered across. I will take another picture but mine is struggling a little at the moment. I think it got a little to much water and I have lost one plant. It is amazing that these plants require such a small amount of water during the winter here. I have been top watering them once a month and it still appears that this may have been too much. Anyway due to the cool temperatures of winter here these plants are not looking there best but I will take some pictures and post them anyway. |
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Here are a few of the plants requested above. The others will follow soon.

Re: Strath76 Growlist
Oooooooooo I really like the bromeliad. Has it ever produced a flower bract for you?
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
No, I've only had it for about 6 months. It should start to kick off when the weather warms up over here. It isn't doing much at the moment as it is a bit cold. I will post a picture of the other carnivorous bromeliad as soon as I get around to taking a picture. It is very small though.

Re: Strath76 Growlist
Here are a few more of the photo's. The only one left is the D. prolifera. That wone is in at work because it is bit warmer there. I will take a pic of that one next week.

These are Utric are I am talking about. I have seen simplex seeds for sale once. I supect the seeds were wild collected.
Utricularia flaccida Utricularia nephrophylla Utricularia simplex |
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Hi Khoas,
The flaccida and simplex I got from Fred Howell. I am sure you know him. The nephrophylla is froom Triffid Park. I picked it up at there moving sale back in March or April. I haven't yet seen flowers from any at this stage, so I cannot gaurantee until this occurs but that is the name they were purchased under. You may be interested to know that Triffid Park are moving into a new nursery and will be having an open day on the 9th of November. These are always good days when you can wlak through there new settup and buy plants. The VCPS will also be there and generally provide some kind of demonstration and a giveaway but there have been no details of this at this stage. I have posted link below. http://triffidpark.com.au/ |
Re: Strath76 Growlist
There is name to remember, Fred Howell is one the original members of the ACPS and has over 30 years in carnivorous plants. He is a true grand master of CP.
I will be getting some new tuberous sundews off him soon. |
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Couldn't agree with you more. When I first got into CP's about 20 years ago most of my plants were supplied by Fred. Now that I am just getting back into them he has again provided many of my old favorites, and all at great prices.

Re: Strath76 Growlist
Here is the picture of my D. prolifera. It is quite small at the moment, the cold winter weather has set it back a bit. I have now moved it to a warmer spot and it has so far responded quite well.

Re: Strath76 Growlist
Updated again. Added D. enodes, palacea and scorpiodies and H. heterodoxa. Also had more Sarra's and D. gigantea germinate.
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Had a good time yesterday? Congratulations on your additions.
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Congrats on your latest additions.
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Thanks Ben and Aaron. I went to a VCPS meeting last night and picked up the plants there. Great value. The best buy for the night would have to be the two H. heterodoxa for $2 each. They are only small but I was very impressed to get them. I of course have to thank the generosity of the fellow enthusiast who was just looking to clear up some room for this years additions.

Re: Strath76 Growlist
Wah. You have even more plants. Congrats.
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Wah almost everyweek you get new plants lol
Ken |
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Thanks. The joys of growing seeds provides goos results some times. The biggest problem I have now is finding somewhere to put them all. I think I might need to consolidate my collection a little bit.
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Adam, Congratulations on your BIG problem. Ain't space the problem for all of us. Especially after germinating seeds when you find that you have multiples of a single specie.
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Updated list. Seed germinated - U. calycifida (3 forms) and S. rubra ssp wherryi.
Also added new plants N. bellii x (thorelli x aristsolochioides); N. madagascariensis x ventricosa; N. ventricosa x xiphioides and N. x wrigleyana |
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Adam, you may need a bigger property to house all your additions. Good on you!
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Added new plants:
Sarracenia oreophila, Darlingtonia californica, Drosera admirabilis, Drosera capensis, Nepenthes maxima x veitchii, Nepenthes sanguinea, Utricularia cornuta, Utricularia tridentata, Utricularia uniflora and Heliamphora minor. Also had N. gracilis, N. raff x gracilis and Drosera viridis germinate. |
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Wow you sure have a lot of plants Adam..:)
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Thanks Ali. The list isn't as long as I would like it to be, but I only have so much room for them. I will have to have discussions with my wife about extending my growing area. Cheers.
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Wow...........Do you like own every genus of carnivorous plants????????????????? And you seem to prefer other CPs more than neps..
Ken |
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Wow!!!!!!Nice long list!!
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Hi Ken, I'm working on every genus but I don't have them all yet. It's not that I prefer other species to nep's just that I get what I can when I can. Nep's aren't so common here in Melbourne so have to buy through mail order. Also I haven't yet settup shelves for my Nep's in my growing house so I have limited space for them at the moment. The others i just keep cramming into trays.
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Yes Adam,Neps are not common here too but you'll get some good deals through Ebay.;)
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Yeah Ali I buy a few through Ebay but one of the problems I have is that the quarantine laws here in Australia are very tough and I can't import plants without a great deal of cost and time. I just keep my eye out for something different and early in the new year I will be ordering a few through Captive Exotics. They have really good prices and the plants are in good condition.
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Very excited about some new additions (shown in red). Now have Nepenthes mira and tubers of U. menzeisii. All I have to do now is get them to grow.
Also very excited about D. meristocaulis and roraimae seeds along with D. regia. A few more plants off the want list if they germinate! |
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Wow, those two plants found in Stewart's books. Can I book seeds now?
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
I'll work on getting them to germinate first. I have read though that meristocaulis is not self fertile and can be difficult to pollinate so we will have to wait and see. Hopefully I will get a few plants and that will increase my chances of getting seed later.
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
How the heck you get hold of meristocaulis seeds? If it is related to pygmy sundews, it may produce gemmae.
Stewart was not sure if it does produce gemmae when he gave his talk at the ACPS meeting last year. |
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Hi Khoas, Allen Lowrie is selling them. When I saw them in his catalogue I just had to buy them. Couldn't resist. I will certainly keep my eye out for gemmae. It would make me very happy if I can get them to grow and they then produce gemmae as well.
|
Re: Strath76 Growlist
Added a few more plants that I was fortunate enough to pick up today and a few seeds that germinated recently.
|
