« Thread Started on 26 Feb, 2007, 22:51 »Early this year a bunch of us received some seeds with the compliments of Robert. How successful are guys with the germination of the seeds?

I am quite a lazy fella. On the 1st of this month, I soaked up some sphagnum moss, placed them in a round take-away food container (those from tau-ful-fa) and then sprinkled my share of the seeds into the container, closed the lid and place the container in my laundry area (receives morning sun).

Over the (CNY) week, I open the lid every morning to see if there is any growth. Actually, it is quite hard to see, given that the sphagnum moss are also green. This evening after scrutinised the contents for 15 minutes with a magnifying glass, I am very confident that at least three germinations have taken place. WOW.

David, anymore seeds to give away?

Btw, all of u seems to germinate seeds using sphagnum moss. Ever tried peat moss before? is there any difference in pro****lity of the seeds to germinate in using sphagnum moss to peat moss?

==========
I separated my seeds into 2 pots with separate way of germination. This is for my own experiment.

1) Indoor germination - no sign, doesn't look like it will change anytime

2) Semi Outdoor balcony germination - > 10 plantlets germinated, didn't keep count exactly.

Looks like my indoor germination failed miserably. Only the hardier ones like sarra seeds germinated 1 out of 10 seeds. Low yield so far. Need to improve or full scale No. 2 way germination.

Glad to see you write again in the forum. Not been hearing from you. For indoor germination was it placed under artificial lights or just in the house?

Slowly picking up again. Been busy and slowing down posting in forums.

Indoor germination - artificial PLL lighting inside an empty aquarium. I put spagnum moss inside a tray and keep the tray wet. So far not very good result.

« Reply #21 on 11 Apr, 2007, 1:06 »Advice from friendly guy http://s4.images.proboards.com/smiley.gif :

"Ok what u have to do to get a lot of germiantion with D. burmanni: use a mixture of 1:1, peat, sand. put the pot in Full Sun, and standing in a tray full of rainwater. Next, spray the inside of a re-sealable bag with some rainwater, then cover the entire pot with it(up to the tray) and keep reffiling the tray whenever the water level gets low.
Germination can take 4 weeks or so.

1) it needs sun
2) it needs some (not alot, just a crack I think) air circulation
Plenty of sun, humidity and water"

Maybe they get shock when I repot them.

Sorry to hear that. You had a lot of germination right? I was hopping that I could get a few plants from you when they mature since my seeds did not germinate.

Hope you don mind sharing what you did when you repotted them and what you did after you repotted them? Water, humidity, media, etc? Perhaps the "sifu-sifu" here can help find out what went wrong.

« Reply #24 on 1 May, 2007, 16:26 »Yup, I think most of the seeds had germinated. Before I repot them, they grow on 100% sphagnum moss, water them using RO water every day. Place it under direct sunlight, direct rain and they looks very healthy gives me alot of dews, but the s.moss was very smelly after a while, so I change them into 1 part peat moss and 1 part perlite, the condition same, then they die. http://s4.images.proboards.com/cry.gif Link to Post - Back to Top http://s4.images.proboards.com/ip.gif Loggedartificialive

« Reply #25 on 1 May, 2007, 16:30 »Sorry to hear that Bifurcatum. I dont know the real reason for the death of your Burmanii, but perhaps i think they got shocked and a bit dehydrated. As for my sundews and pings, after i repotted them, i will put them under shade for 1-2 days, or cover the pot with a plastic bottle until they get stable, before putting them back under sun.
May your burmanii be happy at the CP heaven..

Hope it can recover.
