David, i read some of Chien Lee`s growing tips which i printed from last time for n.adnata...he suggested heavy shading so i`ve put mine under quite filtered conditions...that could be why mine is pitcher shy...it used to be exposed to morning sun fully....

Tarence,
I don know if it is a good idea to move the adnata to a shaded place. Before I gave it to you, the plant was grown under arlitficial lights 16 hours a day. It seem to be doing well then. Also I notice the plant at your place the other day. It seem to have vine. It has not done that at my place. Perhaps the sunlight is not enough and it is tryi6ng to reach out to the sun.

Hi Tarence, David and the rest,

I have this N.adnata in my nursery. The plant is doing fine under heavy shade and getting rain water. It seems to start vine only after the plant height reaching 5-6 inches. One of my N.adnata started flowering. It is from MT and hopefully it is a female plant so that I can cross it with the N.Miranda - (I have a N.clipeata x N.reinwardtiana (MT plant) that bloom female flower - previously I thought that all tissue culture plant will be a male plant.)

Thanks

Hi, Fauzi and David. I will be getting a adnata soon so just a couple of questions. Ermm, not sure if off-topics are ok...

What is the mix used for adnata?

Fauzi, when you say heavy shading, do you mean similar to N. hirsuta?

David, what kind of artificial lights are you using? What is the wattage?

David : the n.adnata was getting direct sunlite similiar to mirabilis x thorelii`s above....the leaves turned a bit yellow too so that`s why i got worried. I`ll try shade ( 50% but more hours of exposure) for a bit & see how it goes.

Cindy, I use four 4-feet florencent plant lights at 38watts with reflectors on all sides to reflect light back to the plants Perhaps my setting is not as bright as natural morning sun.

Tarance, hmm, if the leaves turn yellow, then I think it must be too much sun as you have rightly diagnosed the problem. Ok, ok, better put it in a more shaded area. Better to listen to Fauzi on this as he has more experience cultivating this plant than me. http://s4.images.proboards.com/smiley.gif

I guess if it`s too hot, the nep will refuse to pitcher coz if it does, the pitcher will dry up anyways. I`m thinking like a nepenthes. O` dear I`m becoming like you.

Cindy : I`ll check & see if I`ve printed out the medium recommendation for d.adnata. I`ll post the short write-up tmrw....

David: It depends on how close the plant is under the lights. I use 3ft PL lights and some of my Nep are 3-5" away from the tube itself. I ever measured the light intensity, it averages about 10,000-15,000lux which is similar to full daylight. Direct sunlight is more than 20,0000lux.

On the "Advisor part", don worry about it. No presure! I can't just have you as a member on this forum. Don reply on whether you accept or not. You have no choice... haa, haa, haaa...

Isaac, I got the plant from MT. Really tiny when I got it. Did a cutting on it when it grew a little bigger and gave the cutting to Tarence some time back.

Cindy,
My N.adnata grows together under the same shaded area as for the N.hirsuta. I am using shreaded sphagnum moss + perlite This is a dwarf species and the pitcher is about 2 inches only and they start vine when the plant is about 5-6 inches

Isaac,
I have a few plants but they have been booked and suppose to be collected this coming Friday. If they are not coming I'll PM you.

Below are 2 photos of N.adnata

Mine is from MT. The 'fuzz' - you mean the brownish hairy thing on the edge of the leaf? I think mine have that fuzz. I'll reconfirm on it later part of the day.

I've visited MT nursery last week. They seems to not having N.adnata anymore in their stock.

Adnata : An intermediate grower, preferring warm ( not hot ) conditions & considerable shading. Compost must be kept damp at all times

Rafflesiana : does best with about 50% shading & warm humid conditions. Obtaining large size within 1-2 years.

Bicalcarata : requires warmth & plenty of space for growth. Well drained media.

Btw, I didn`t know it was a dwarf variety, no wonder i thot mine was stunted. David, next time we exchange plants, i need detailed instructions & care tips ! Heheh....you got me worried.....but I still need to work on the pitcherless part which I know is my fault. sigh.

I asked about the extent of shade because my balcony is very bright. The hirsuta I received from a friend last October is only beginning to put out larger leaves, let alone pitchers. http://s4.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif

Michael,
It is the one with the fuzz at the edge of the leaf.

Cindy,
Clare will be coming this Friday to collect the plants and most probably Jonathan will be coming with her.

I'll post the photos of the plant later today - with seed pods, upper pitchers and their actual size.

Thanks

I got mine from Fauzi and it dropped it's pitchers due to the climate change me think...

The 1 and only budding pitcher got snapped into 2. A month or so then it put out a new leaf... Now I'm keeping them in shaded area of my very confined balcony on the moist side.

With or without pitchers... N. adnata is cute cute...

For Lisham,
I hope that all the plants are doing well after few months of acclimatization at their new home ...... in Langkawi Island.

Thanks
