Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
Well done, they look like plants that will flower this season.

Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
Interesting! These plants look like D indica huh...
|
Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
But this one has tubers. Initailly it grows a thin leader then only leaf.

Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
What are those green thing on the second pic?The seedlings or weed?
|
Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
By september they should be flowering and heading for dormancy shortly after that. They should have daughter tubers coming next season. The Pink Rainbow spend most of the year in dormancy or waiting to break dormancy.

Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
Im jalous... All my tuber is gone. I planted it too deep!!!!
|
Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
Nice growing Ben. I have some of these in waiting to germinate. I hope you get them through to next season. How are youplanning on managng the dormancy? I would be interested to hear.
Marvin, The green stuff inthe second pic looks like algae or moss coming up. I often get this on some of my pots but it doesn't seem to harm the seedlings at all. |
Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
Dormancy should not be problem. Just let the pots dry out. I just happy to see them growing in a tropical conditions.
Casey: talk you in janurary, I will have more menzesii tubers then. |
Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
If there are daughters I can pass some to you casey. No worries.
Sign of dormancy? When the above ground plant material dries up? Just keep it dry right? Adam, hope your seeds will germinate for you. |

They should start turning black once they have flowered. Once they start dying back allow the pot to dry completely. More tuber are lost through rot than anything else. |
Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
Thank you for your kind advise, Donny.
Casey, for the record. I planted the tubers in peat + sand mix (don't ask me proportion). I placed the tubers in with a light blanket of mix covering it. Garnished the pot with some pure peat moss to shield from the intense sun I get at my place. Sits in water tray which sometimes dries up when I forget I have plants growing outside. |
Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
Thanx for tips...
Tubers drosera is a bit difficult plants... Looking forward to try it again. |

Here's some photo update. I took only photos of two plants (1 is new forming a rossette) as there aren't much changes in the others. Background is a Malaysian 50sens coin = Australian 20 cents size, about 27cm diameter. Was a very windy night, so you'll notice the sticky stuff being blown from tentacle to tentacle forming kinda web.

That is nice...

Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
27cm??? No wonder my wallet seem to be so heavy*biggrin2*
|
Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
Heavy from pocket full of glittering coins? Gold coins?
|
Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
No, you mention that a aussie 20c piece is 27cm wide.
|
Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
I know, Donny. You mentioned your pockets heavy with Aussie coins, I would presume they are the gold 1 and 2 dollar ones.
|
Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
I wish I had lots of gold coins. I think I just put my foot in my mouth.

Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
Hehe.

Drosera menziesii in the tropics
Hi all,i have tuberous drosera in vitro, but i dont know how to produce tubers. Do i need to use any hormone, or set photoperiode or it depend upon temperature ?
|
Re: Drosera menziesii in the tropics
Think the question you are posting is pretty difficult for most of us here to answer as we have not much experience in in-vitro.
