Rosette pitcher of N. spectabilis (scorched because it receives full day sun!)

And the bugger even flowered before- it is a dried up male inflorescence.

Raff and truncata are in 98% burnt soil plus 2% cocopeat (as a sorry excuse to increase humidity)

The rest are a mixture of lecaton of various sizes and burnt soil to achieve a porous mix.

Fauzi, how's ur spectabilis doing? The bical that I got from u also started to pitcher after i changed to burnt soil. It was sulking and only growing leaves like a palm tree before cos I have been very lazy to change the perlite mix

Thanks. Those are plants in my parent's place in Penang. Besides those, sanguinea, rajah, campanulata, ventricosa, reinwardtiana and ventrata also grows fine in burnt soil. Small rajah can produce 2.5 cm pitcher with red colouration.

Hi All,

Thanks for sharing the photos of your plants Poweramp. They look gorgeous...glad they have someone as caring as you.... although under burnt soil. As long as they pitcher, that mean they appreaciate what you are giving them

My N.spectabilis is forming a nice new leaf and hopefully I could have a decent pitcher from it. I've change the media from Florafoam to shreaded coconut chip a month ago and put them nicely under my big bicalcarata.
They seems to like the media and started producing new shoots and the first leaf produce is bigger almost 2 times than the previous one under florafoam. My large N.rajah also started to produce new shoot after a month in the coconut chip. If I got a decent pitcher later I'll post it here, otherwise I'll have to do some more experiment....

Thanks

Fauzi

You've got a huge rafflesiana pitcher there. Seems liek more and more growers are reporting very good results with burnt soil on their neps. I think it's time for me to experiment with it too. Thanks for sharing poweramps.

Thanks David. I sieve and wash the burnt soil. Those that we get from Sg Buloh tend to have too much dust. And I wash for many many rounds with tap water to flush salts out.
