Hello, my seeds are more than a week old now(counted from the first day i sow them). Today, i saw some white tiny dots on some of the seeds. Are they rotting?

How do you sow-in open or closed container, direct sun or shade?

Hello,

I appologise for not being able to post a picture. Because i don't have a digital camera, the best camera at home is 2 M pixel phone camera but the white things is too small. It looks like hairy hairy thing with the end of the hair a white dot. I think it's funggi too.

I put it indoor, in closed plastic containers. No suns, just 2* 4ft PL(daylight) and 1 * 4ft PL(warm)

I spray/mist the seeds with water every 2-3 days. Change the tray water once a week.Hopefully u guys can help me out without a picture. So sorry for not being able to post a picture.

Hi Robert,
I am keeping those inside a closed container with some holes on the cover place under direct sun. Is it ok? The spagnum moss is wet all the time. Is there any problem to keep like that?

Dom, sowing seeds using natural light i would place it under bright shade, in open container, keep it moist but not wet.

Others may employed the same method as you and received good germination. Let's hear what others have to comment.

dom, I get best result using peat & perlite mix topped with a layer of peat in an open container. Keep it moist and leave it in shaded area, bright sunlight.

They usually germinate for me in 10-14 days. And don't get any mould/algae problem like I usually do with sphagnum.

This method was recommended to me by Robert btw, http://s4.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I have also tried Anthene's advise, recommended by Robert of course. Works very well even for drosera. Open container, direct morning sunlight on the balcony. Oh, did soak the peat with boiling water before sowing seeds.

Kianliang, I use covered transparent boxes so I use fungicide on the seeds should they develop fungus. That doesn't happen all the time...only when the seeds collected are not dried properly for storage. Or if the media in the boxes is kept too wet. « Last Edit: Apr 7, 2008, 3:16pm by cindy »Link to Post - Back to Top http://s4.images.proboards.com/ip.gif Logged kianliang87
