i think there will be some charges, the only thing i scare is the process of the application. maybe the process will take weeks or even months to complete... who knows...

I don't think that most of the strict law will be implemented in plants. It mentioned mainly pets and animals, though of course, there are punishments for exotic plants. Most probably, plants will have more liability.

I would love to hear comments from orchid growers.... their number far outnumber CP growers in Malaysia. I wonder how on earth the officer from Agri Department will be able to tell what is what species.... How about plants fr TC source and/or obtained via cuttings??? How about home made "seed" grown hybrids, there's no regulation/law against man made propogation, right??

This is the headache faced by them.... just too many questions with no answers....

Nepnut, from an orchid grower's perspective, IMHO it is just ridiculous and difficult to implement.. The trade in wild species is becoming more popular these days, but more and more of these plants are being nursery-grown from seed instead of jungle-collected. I think that the officers, in any, are not trained or qualified to even identify different species correctly, particularly as the taxonomy of many orchids is very confusing. If the government is that really keen to contribute towards conservation, I suggest that they start by restricting excessive logging and selling of endangered (wild-collected) species instead of implementing laws like these which are of little use and exhaustive on manpower... Just my 2 sen..
