My ventrata is leaning to the side like this. Why?

And the offshoot on that plant is producing pitchers already.

Not an expert but I think your ventrata has grown too long and can't support itself, if you like you can put a supporting stick for it, I have one on mine. However maybe it's time for you to consider a cutting http://s4.images.proboards.com/smiley.gif But I have no experience with cuttings yet.

Great plants though!

I agree with arvin555, that the ventrata vine is too weak to support itself after it gets to be a certain length. In addition, the pitchers, heavy with fluid, help to pull it down. An alternative to cutting it is to train it to make a circle by pulling the flexible tip toward the pot every couple of weeks or so and figuring out a way to make it stay like that. It will eventually make a bushy plant with lots of pitchers.

Staking the plant is an option, but I (in a short time growing I might add) have found that if you let the vine trail downwards, for whatever reason, it seems to encourage the growth of side/basal shoots. This could just be a coincidence but just thought I'd add that. Nice plant!

It depends on how you want to display your Nep. Basically there are 3 ways to display your neps.

Some growers just allow it to hang downwards and Neps are happy to this. edaxflamma is right to say that the plant will produce basels for you if you let it vine downwards. Cindy has also experimented by purposely bending the growing vine to the side. The plant gave out basels.

Or alternatively, you can let it climb up a stick or some sort of support. But if you do this make sure the support is steady and will not fall over easily. I broke a 7 feet nep vine like this before. Heart ache!

Another way to display your nep is to trim it. This will make it bushier. 1-2 vines will grow from the stem that was cut. But when you do this, please do not trim the stem all the way to the media and leave no leaves on the main stem. Leave 4-5 leaves on the main stem or the stem might die.
