Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???
I think the media for Pings can be wet, at least that is how I grow mine... in a water tray. But like Drosera they like some air flow. If the grow area is totally covered with no air flow, they do not grow well and will be pron to fungus attact. for my Pings I realised they do not need the intense light that Drosera or VFTs need. They seem to do better in lower light levels. In higher light levels, they seem to "melt" or rot. I think it might be the heat from the intense light. They like it cooler as well.

Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???
If mexican ping leaf is too wet, the leaf may melt.
I grow them with water tray and shaded as well. |
Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???
Hehehe, Shamrock, that is a bit too harsh to get rid of the plant, I do try to save the plant even if it is too far gone :)
For fungus someone suggested Betadine and there was some post about using Hydrogen peroxide, I say try to physically remove all the unpleasant looking stuff and then use any of the above to get off any that is left, don't use too much of course, dab it. Thanks David for the info... goes to show that I still am confused about Pings. I have mine in a water tray, but it is very shallow, maybe 10% of the pot height, and I usually drain it then put water the next day. By the way what pottting medium do you use David? How about you Jarvis? ps. Marvin they are not spider web but web of spider mites which I think are not real spider. :) |
Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???
what species ?
for me I think also too wet , a bad substrat . what substrat ? for all the mexican ping use mineral calcareous substrat . actually they come in dormancy , the substrat must be just slightly wet or dry , for the filiform completly dry here your plant is died , (directly dustbin ) jeff |

Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???
i'm put it that just keep it to shade... i everday to concerned my plants and pour water ( rain water )... the white points that is fungus, not a spider eggs ( haha...many spider died in my pitcher inside liao ) , i think it too wet and melt their leaves...emm ...the problem make me up to my experience , and i know how to care about Pinguicula in the future. Thanks all comment ...:1thumbup:

Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???
DAVID your substrat is not adapted for the ping .
'in situ' just some ping grow in this substrat , the majority : temperate and mexican grow in a substrat more mineral calcareous :1thumbup: 'in situ' the ping and the drosera grow rarely in a same environment and especially at this time they come in dormancy , no watering or just a little by capillarity to keep the substrat slightly wet but always a good air hygrometry. jeff |
Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???
I grow pings semi-shade (50% filtered light), potted in a small bowl type pot in pure sphag, without the water tray method and its (Ping primuliflora) are doing well.
Hey, Jarvis, are you from BM too..? *biggrin2* |
