Bical after repotting...

Largest pitcher about 4 inches high.. http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/b...y/IMG_6362.jpg Leafspan is 4 feet (~120cm).. http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/b...y/IMG_6361.jpg And it can only get bigger... |
Re: Bical after repotting...
Thank for sharing.
Look like I needs to find a place for my N.bicalcarata before it was too late. Needs below advice : 1. Size for the pot 2. How old is this plant 3. What is the media you use for this plant 4. The max size for the pitcher can grow 5. You put it at full sunlight and time frame Thank you |
Re: Bical after repotting...
Hi LJTan... Bicalcarata needs a lo of space and grows very fast after repotting. Apparently, it likes being overpotted and will die if not repotted for some time. To answer your questions:
1. Pot diameter about 40cm. Equal height. 2. Got the plant as 3-inch seedling 4 years ago. 3. I use 100% sphagnum moss 4. Maximum is about 30cm, I think. Pitchers need to rest on the ground for them to grow to this size. 5. No. Bical is a shade plant. Grown in half-shade and watered once a day. Hope this helps.. :) |

paphioboy
Thank for advice. How do we know on when to repotting? |
Re: Bical after repotting...
Erm... I just repot when the plant seems too big for its pot. The whole pot may be unstable and nearly fall down.. :p Apparently, growth will slow down noticeably when bical needs repotting..

Re: Bical after repotting...
wow, amazing, how do you rate the growth rate of bical from 1 to 5, with 1 meaning very fast and 5 meaning very slow:smile:
have one bical since last year, leaves size about 7cm, till now the same, only 2 to 3 leaves are green every time, once a new leaf grows out, the older one will die off, very strange, seems like it never really grow |
Re: Bical after repotting...
C Way, out of 1 to 5, i rate bical 1.5-2. Ventrata or gracilis would have to be 1... :p
That's strange. I find bical grows very fast when its small. It does not like full sun or dryness though. Must always keep the medium wet. |
Re: Bical after repotting...
Huh? Mine not pitchering so does it mean I have to repot?
|
Re: Bical after repotting...
thanks paphioboy for the rating, hopefully my bical grow faster without problem, probably need repotting as well since I potted it at the side of the pot last time, could be a cause since the root cannot fully growed

Re: Bical after repotting...
One thing i don't like about a bical is that the leaves are too huge and the pitchers in comparison are way to small. So balcony growers like me might not get have enough space.
(Got a feeling somebody is gonna prove me wrong and show a nice leaf pitcher ratio plant) |
