Looks like fungus growing on the decomposing leaves. I don't think they are the cause of the leave dying. Are you watering your plants very very often? Grow them in damp place? Or too much sun?

Maybe if you care to care your growing condition, frequency of watering and whatever relavant info.

The white things are eggs? And you have spider mites i think

Marvin, spider mites are very very tiny. Need magnifier to see it. So their eggs should be even smaller.

I am still struggling with Pings myself. On one hand people say do not make them too wet, on the other I lost some because of too dry.

From what i see, it looks like your media might be too wet, do you keep the pot in a water tray?

Pests as others mentioned also possible, if you can, try to carefully take off those web like things and white things, if you need to cut off part of the leaves that does not look nice, go ahead.

I put a cover on my pings so that they won't get rained on directly, so don't water over the leaves. There is a new growth tip, so hopefully your ping will survive this.

Im not good in ping. I suspect that is the problem. Too wet...

Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???

that fungus is bad news. if i were you, i'd get rid of the ping and the media as well.

i get it on my regular plants sometimes when it's too wet. the only thing that helps, besides removing and discarding everything, is nicotine tea.

Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???

I think the media for Pings can be wet, at least that is how I grow mine... in a water tray. But like Drosera they like some air flow. If the grow area is totally covered with no air flow, they do not grow well and will be pron to fungus attact. for my Pings I realised they do not need the intense light that Drosera or VFTs need. They seem to do better in lower light levels. In higher light levels, they seem to "melt" or rot. I think it might be the heat from the intense light. They like it cooler as well.

Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???

If mexican ping leaf is too wet, the leaf may melt.

I grow them with water tray and shaded as well.

Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???

Hehehe, Shamrock, that is a bit too harsh to get rid of the plant, I do try to save the plant even if it is too far gone :)

For fungus someone suggested Betadine and there was some post about using Hydrogen peroxide, I say try to physically remove all the unpleasant looking stuff and then use any of the above to get off any that is left, don't use too much of course, dab it.

Thanks David for the info... goes to show that I still am confused about Pings. I have mine in a water tray, but it is very shallow, maybe 10% of the pot height, and I usually drain it then put water the next day.

By the way what pottting medium do you use David? How about you Jarvis?

ps. Marvin they are not spider web but web of spider mites which I think are not real spider. :)

Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???

what species ?

for me I think also too wet , a bad substrat .

what substrat ?

for all the mexican ping use mineral calcareous substrat .

actually they come in dormancy , the substrat must be just slightly wet or dry , for the filiform completly dry

here your plant is died , (directly dustbin )

The water in my tray is also about 10% of the pot height. I use a mixture of sand and sphagnum peat, the same media I use for my Drosera. Perhaps my Pings are ok soaking in water because I use about 60%-70% sand mix with 30%-40% sphagnum peat.

i'm put it that just keep it to shade... i everday to concerned my plants and pour water ( rain water )... the white points that is fungus, not a spider eggs ( haha...many spider died in my pitcher inside liao ) , i think it too wet and melt their leaves...emm ...the problem make me up to my experience , and i know how to care about Pinguicula in the future. Thanks all comment ...:1thumbup:

Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???

DAVID your substrat is not adapted for the ping .

'in situ' just some ping grow in this substrat , the majority : temperate and mexican grow in a substrat more mineral calcareous :1thumbup:

'in situ' the ping and the drosera grow rarely in a same environment

and especially at this time they come in dormancy , no watering or just a little by capillarity to keep the substrat slightly wet but always a good air hygrometry.

I grow pings semi-shade (50% filtered light), potted in a small bowl type pot in pure sphag, without the water tray method and its (Ping primuliflora) are doing well.

Hey, Jarvis, are you from BM too..? *biggrin2*

I don't know jeff. They seem to do ok for me so far. Below is a picture my P. primuliflora and the condition I mentioned. I've been growing it in this condition for almost a year now. Any how, I like to experiment. I'll take your advise and alow the media to be on a dry side and see what happens. Perhaps it'll grow more robust.

Why is my primuflora has long and narrow leaves??

jeff 19th October 2009 05:29 PM

Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???

DAVID your ping in picture is not a primuliflora*biggrin2*

I am OK with MARVIN.

see here( my web site) a lot of primuliflora picture

http://fern72.free.fr/siteweb/pinguicula.html

it is in french to have in english or others language make your choice in the google module .

primuliflora are a subtropical US .
primuliflora love to live in a pure sphagnum condition and in spring compleltly immersed.

for your specie in picture
attention to the rot with this cultivate condition.
change the substrat , and actually no wet condition just a slightly wet soil .

Would appreciate it if you can help me identify my Ping jeff. What is it? Is it x sethos?

jeff 19th October 2009 07:25 PM

Re: what's wrong of my Pinguicula...???

have you a flower ? because with just a roset it is difficult to identifiate .

you buy it in a garden center?

if yes ,then perhaps

a x'Tina' or a x'Sethos' named also 'fake weser'
