YAY! My first and very own flower!

Hi everyone

phew phew...(panting) gimme a second................

Okays im done with that.I just checked my N mixta x fusca for some reason today since its my tallest plant already starting to vine and it looked a bit fat at the growing tip.So i went and checked out the new leaf not yet emerging but you can see it if you open the new leaf up.I saw....:eek:!!!!!!!A nepenthes flower!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......Its to young to even know if its a male or female.....probally coming out of the new leaf in about 2 weeks. So i was wondering if its a male what should i do with it????If there are people intrested for the pollen what do i do to get it???......I've always been waiting for this day when my nepenthes flowers......anyways it looks like a green stick with little tentacles all around it.

Patience, ken, wait till it flowers. If it is a male flower, you may collect the pollen and sell them or store them untill you have a female flower. If it is a female, then try to get some nep. pollen to pollinate it or if you already have it, then pollinate it! Congrats, by the way!

No use selling the pollen to me, I don't know whether I even have a female nep.

Hi Edward

Thanks for the comments. What i meant when i say what to do was......since i have no experience i don't even know how to take pollen from a male flower....to trade off give to anyone else.If it is a female i don't even know what to do to put the pollen to the flower pods eheheheheh.Kinda have 0 experience so i have to ask questions rather than sit and do nothing.

Well, if it is a male, wait till the anthers are matured and look fuzzy. then use a paint brush and tease the anthers slowly to get the pollen. make sure you have a sheet of plastic below your anthers so that the pollen doesn't faaaalllllllll on the floor!!!:eek: If you wanna pollinate the female flowers, use the faithful paintbrush again to scoop some of the pollen and transfer it to the receptive stigmas. Now isn't that easy.........:lol::lol:

Btw, why is this thread in the 'All Stuff On Carnivorous Plants' sections?shouldn't it be in the nep section?

Cheers

Nice one Ken, I hope you can find a great use for your flowers. If it's a female you can check the forums for available pollen and make some interesting crosses. Good luck!

Lucky you!

None of my neps have flowered yet. It'll be at least another year I think for my biggest nep to flower.

Hi Marigold

Don't worry they'll all flower one day.
