N.Gracilis nearby waterfalls in Johor.

I went to a water fall in johor 2 weeks ago. After having fun in the water,i decided to jungle walk abit and this is what i found at the road side.Prefectly hidden. The area is very wet and humid.Cold but not as cold as Cameron Highlands.

A little close-up.

At the bottom.Hidden by dead leaves.

When leaves removed and comes the red pitchers. They are actually basels from main root.Anybody noticed the bird poo which barely missed the pitcher mouth.

The leaf and pitcher ratio is so big.Wonder why the pitchers can get so big with such small leaves. All the bottom pitchers are red and top pitchers are green.

Baby plantlets.

The plants itself are tall vines.Climbing on trees. Some of the leaves act as support by wrapping around tree branches.Hence, not all the leaves have pitchers.

The overview of the area.Water source is nearby.

The soil type.Muddy clay with lots of dead leaves.

Sorry for the lousy pictures due to my hp camera and im not a profesional photographer.I was only at the road side for around 1/2 hour because it started to rain and i had to call a cab to pick me up.I could not find any nep flowers while i was there.Hope there are more neps further in the jungle with bigger pitchers.

The plants look like Lindernia species.

Thanks for the pictures. Gracilis has similar habit as N. ampullarias. When they vine and become matured plants, they will produce basel pitchers in the same way just like amps. The leaves are very small an narrow with a very short tendril. This is also another reason why I like gracilis. Here's a picture of my gracilis. This is an old plant with me, and as you can see it has produced basel pitchers for me:

It is interesting to note that the pictures you took of the picthers hidden in the media and leaves are red in colour. I realised my gracilis only gives me nice red picthers when it is exposed to direct sunlight. Whenever I place them in a more shaded place the pitchers are greenish. However, I've also noticed that wild plants do have reddish picthers that are not exposed to sunlight.

Anybody has an explaination for this?

Ur welcome. You have nice Gracilis there.I love the high quantity of the neps from single plant.

Regarding the red pitchers.Could it be due to the dead leaves? If we put some dead leaves in the water, the water will turn brown-red.Im guessing the diet for the pitchers on the ground are dead leaves cause its been fully covered with dead leaves. The pigment colour from dead leaves or high acidicity could change the pitcher colour. Its just a tought from me.Anyone else got some ideas.
