Nepenthes stem cutting - water method?
Read somewhere said that we can use water as media for leaf cutting. Anyone have experience with it ?(instead of spagnum moss that we usually use)
Thanxxxxxx.... |
Re: Use water to grow cutting?
Casey, I think you meant stem cutting for nepenthes.
Leaves cutting propogation so far only work with drosera & in 1 incident with vft. Yeah btw, I heard that nepenthes cutting can take root using just water, but I've never been successful with it, they just start rotting. Maybe next time I'll try slitting the end, that's supposed to help tremendously! |
Re: Use water to grow cutting?
Just was looking at a Thai blog where the guy poked holes in a piece of styro-foam and floated it in a tank with cuttings stuck through, 1/2" into the water. The pictures of the roots at later stages were amazing! I'll try to find it again and post. That's the second time I've seen this and want to try it out. Hmmmm, I DID see some tallish plants in the nursery today!

Re: Use water to grow cutting?
Hi casey
Yes you can grow nep stem cuttings on water and also like athene said drosera leaf cuttings.....For vft i don't know.Anyways i think its "safer" or maybe easier to root nep cuttings in water but has to change it when algae grows same goes to drosera leaf cuttings but don't you think its easier just to cut the leaf and chuck it into other plant's pot :D Thats what i did. Re: Use water to grow cutting?
I have the same results with Boris. Cuttings in sphagnum moss seems to have more success rate than rooting in water for me. Only N. mirabilis and gracilis has 90% success in water. For the other species, when I use water to root them, they seem to rot and die.

Thanx for reply... |
Re: Use water to grow cutting?
I have good results with 2 part perlite : 1 part chopped LFS (frequency of watering depending on the ratio), experimenting on 1 part perlite : 2 part coco chips now...
Tried the water method, didn't work out that well for me... |
