Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
Lim,
can you please give us tips on how you are cultivating them? I have lost my first Ceph last summer, brought all the way from Thailand to boot :( Would be nice to know how to do it right next time :) TTFN Arvin |
Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
Ceph doesn't require dormancy, though they can go through dormancy. That's what I read from the Savage Garden book.

Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions

Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
Cephs dont need domancy, unless you are going to flower it. Even if you got the seeds, it is very hard to germinate in our asia tempreture. If your bed room is airconed, just sleep with it. High day temp is ok even with morning sun. Just make sure night time there is a drop in temp of ard 8-10 degrees. The only issue is if you want it to have bigger pitches. higher humidity gives you bigger pitches.
So, grow it in a uncovered tank with the pot on some pebbles. Have water in the tank without touching the pot. This ensure there is sufficient humidity and it is cooling for the cephs. Without cover will let it have air movement, so no mildew will set in. If your bed room dont have any nature light, then maybe add in a set of diy PL 2 x 36watts. Let the lights be ard 1 feet away from the cephs. This way you will get large colourful pitches. The media is another issue. Try to grow it in a more airy mix, pls avoid perlite, as we are growing it in asia. |
Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
media - 1 part peat or sphagnum moss : 1 part perlite
water tray - 1 cm lighting - 2 x Phillips T8, 865, 36 W. 14 hours a day. 6 inch from the plant. temperature- 26-36 °C http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...m/DSCN7522.jpg |
Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions

|
Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
I read that cephalotus matured plant is sensitive with temperature. So, for those grow outdoor, be caution

Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
Delwin,why avoid pelite in Asia?

Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
The media from YG is too wet, so it rot. You have to change the media.

Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
what is the differences between 'pitchers' and 'traps'?
|
Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
for pitcher plants like Cephalotus,Sarracenia,Nepenthes,Darlingtonia,Helia mphora etc etc, they have pitchers.their pitchers are used as a trap.
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c2...m/DSCN7522.jpgthats a pitcher.the pitcher can also be called trap bcoz it can trap small vertebrates like insects. |
Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
ooohhh..
i thought the word 'pitcher' is just for softball player.. for a type of plant, is also called pitcher..*biggrin2* so both of them are not the same, but i still can call a pitcher, as a 'trap', but i can't call a trap, as a pitcher, right? |
Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
yes u can call pitchers as traps but u cant call traps of Venus FLytraps as pitcher.
pitcher is kinda like a jug filled with water.thats what u call pitcher |
Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
yeah..now i understand..
can't wait to see my seeds grow.. hmm.. about nephentes, is it have seeds too? |
Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
yes.but if u wanna have the best germination of it,get a fresh one from NepNut.he always supply fresh nepenthes seeds from time to time.he'll be posting it at the trading board if he just harvested them.
|
Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
the seeds of nephentes...hmmm..the time of growing is the same as vft or not?
yeah...you know..vfts growing form seeds grow sooo slow... |
Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
i germinated VFT seeds last 2months,they take 10days to germinate if keep warm.
Nepenthes...so far only 1germination but grow kinda slow.germinated 1month after sow...so..not interested so much on germinating nepenthes except newly fresh onces |
Re: Dormancy and cultivation questions
if that what you say, then i will keep my interest fully on vfts only..*biggrin2*
