Can Mirabilis take direct sunlight?
Hi everyone
I recently got a mirabilis from a nice member here.....And there were cuttings and a basal separation...The basal already has quite a normal/large sized root system for its sized and its already growing and pitchering....It suppose to be a mirabilis red but now making green pitchers and the red pitchers has died of due to change of enviroment..So since mirabilis likes very high humidity i'm afriad of putting it out in direct sunlight since there humidity is very low but if i don't it'll be a green mirabilis lol:thumbdown: Any suggestions? I think mirabilis is a kind strong neps. If your mirabilis begin to grow normally after changing the enviroment, you can give it more sunlight. And I think mirabilis like sunlight very much.

Re: Can Mirabilis take direct sunlight?
Your mirabilis definally can take the morning direct sunlight you mention. But since it is in the shadier condition now, some leaves might burn. Just make sure the water tray is always filled for the first 1-2 weeks.

Re: Can Mirabilis take direct sunlight?
Hello Ken...
Just like David said, N.mirabilis can take the morning direct sunlight. I grow my directly under the full sun, without any shade. It receive not just morning sun but afternoon and evening sun as well...and not only the pitcher will turn red, the leaf will turn red as well. I’ll suggest that you move you plant slowly from shadier place to full direct sunlight. Just make sure to keep the soil moist. |

Hi guys
Okays....i shall slowly acclimatise the plant...Today i already put it in about an hour of direct sunlight..So far not burned..Although some parts of the leaves were covered by my VFT pot... Ken |
Re: Can Mirabilis take direct sunlight?
yes just gradually introduce it to the sunlight. eventually it will color up.. even the leaves. the red color is stunning. my mirabilis has been under full sun for almost three years now.. its growing like its an invading weed.

Re: Can Mirabilis take direct sunlight?
I agree, just make sure that you keep the water tray topped up with water. Last night I came back from a long weekend, and was so shocked that my Mirabilis was wilting, so I quickly watered all of my plants (height of the summer here now). Next day the Mirabilis looked okay already. What happened was the water tray dried up, the Gracilis that it was sharing the tray with was fine, so yes Mirabilis likes to be WET. Regardless of sunlight intensity.

ken,be patient, it doesn't help putting an hr or 2 in morning direct sunlight. Any neps that were acquired recently has to be acclimatise. Keep it under cool bright shade, let it grow until healthy leaves and roots formed. The whole process may take a 1-2 months.
