Re: Providing dormancy in the tropics

Yup, its going into dormancy. Take it out of the tray watering method and put in a shady cool place. Reduce watering to once a week, or whenever the top of the sphagnum becomes dry. The plant will come out of dormancy by itself. Resume normal watering when you see normal pitchers begin to develop. :)

Re: Providing dormancy in the tropics

Hi Marvin, they don't look like phyllodia to me. Flowers are usually produced at the start of teh growing cycle. They can be produced at other times but this doesn't happen often. The link below shows a plant of mine with phyllodia. I would suggest just keeping the water and light up to it in the short term and see what happens. A lack of either water or light can produce flattened or deformed traps.

Oh...Mine had one but it's very small.Unlike yours which are big. Will keep an eye on it.But the flower is kinda deformed.Didn't noticed it's peatals because maybe it's deformed.

That was how my sarras looked (Marvin's pics) like when they were dormant.. I used dry dormancy on them and they're now bouncing back to life.. Maybe the phyllodia of this hybrid/species are different from oreophila's..

Hi Marvin,
Here is my advice, you should give the plant to the shade place and change pot media with 50% SM 50% Perlite, change the water in the tray usually. I hope it can help.:1thumbup:
Best regards,

Re: Providing dormancy in the tropics

I think that looks like a fern. Happen to my purpurea which doesn't make phyllodia.

Strath!!!! I lost my purp!!! It went into dormancy, and i provided it a good one, just like what you advised. But it isn't making any pitchers! Its already a month......boo hoo hoo!!

Any advise? Or is my purp lost already?

Cheers
