Byblis plantlets vanished?

Hi All,

Remember my byblis plantlets which germinated in 9 days? Well, on the 12th day (yesterday), 90% of those plantlets dissapeared! No sign of dead plantlets. Just vanished into thin air. What is left are two very small plantlets which germinated much later.

Below is the picture of the container with germinated plantlets before the dissapearance.

I don't see any pest on the media so don't know why they just vanished. Maybe there are some other predators out there that I am not aware of.

Does anyone ever encounter this strange situation? Hope to get some feedback.

Now have to keep a watchful eye on those remaining plantlets.:crying:

Byblis seedlings are very prone to fungus attack. Giving them direct sunlight (apparently the UV kills the fungus) and better ventilation helps.

Re: Byblis plantlets vanished?

One month has passed since my byblis plantlets started vanishing. I managed to save only two plantlets. I realised that the byblis needed full direct sunlight in the open and on water tray with about 5mm high worth of water (by the way, my media is around 25mm thick). The water will dry up completely at the end of the day. Did watering daily.

It seems very wet media will cause the byblis to just rot away and vanished. Thanks Cindy for the advise.

The media can be kept soppy wet as long as there is lower humidity around the plant and bright light. In the wild, Byblis grows in dry, desert-like conditions.
