It's a stupid law. People must get permit to cultivate them, although deforestation is whats threatening endangered species.

Dear all,

I had a call from a orchid planter/enthusiast last night. They had a meeting with the agriculture department last week. What they are undergoing has implication on Nepenthes, so I am keeping a close watch.

For now, they have concluded that only species orchids needs to be registered. HOWEVER, the process/procedure on how this gonna implemented is yet to be ironed out. Next meeting is on the 30th of this Month. I'll keep you informed of the outcome. So, wait an see.

FYI, it seems Malaysia is the only country to do this (registering species orchid). Malaysia Boleh! Yeh! We are leading now...

Thanks Ban Aik for the info. Seems like Malaysia is always "leading" with all the wrong reasons....

Ban Aik, thanx for yours afford.

Malaysia practice is setup a rules then only decide how to do implement it. When facing technical problem, and they will said that it is just suggestion and not decide/finalize yet. :mad:

No lah malaysia always comes up with open ended rules and regulations so that they can interpret it as they wishes. More options to cari makan mah.

Yes, I know of public rulings/acts instituted but the enforcers have asked to help them implement as a favour. Buraeucracy has its strength and weakness.

Oh, just 'great'... And I have over 100 species orchids inn my collection... I'm sure most hobbyists have even more.. If they're going to need a permit for each and every species, I'm going to have to migrate overseas just to keep my collection... How ridiculous is that? :p

you can export and hide some to my 'island country'...*biggrin2*
