A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi everyone
Well few months back i got a N bical from Robert........Came in preety good conditions and 1 pitcher bare root......That pitcher now has become cirspy dry but its shape still remains....weird........ Anyways it took about 1-2 weeks for the bical to start showing a little signs of growth and then after a while it just took off.....with a big leaf......measuring around 20cm or 8" which is way bigger than all the other leaves...It also has a nice looking light brown tendrill and and after that growth just stoped!!........Well technically not stoped cos i can see a new small little leaf forming under the new leaf......But the speed of its growth like suddenly stoped.....not as fast as it was forming the new leaf.. I grow it at the bottom of the rack which is considered the darkest part of the whole rack considering it is covered by N miranda....But it still has a little direct sun some time of the day......This is a pic was where i put it when i just got my rack which is the red circle but now its at the yellow circle for some time already. Heres the pic http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...untitled-1.jpg Well can anyone help me out on this????Any of the sifu??? Ken |
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ken, since it was already well rooted and acclimatised to your environment, placed it in brighter part around the house. what media are you using?
|
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Robert
Its definitly rooted now.......no doubt bout that.....Placing it in a brigther condition??? I thought they like it more shaded.....I'm using pure LFS Ken |
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you should give it more sunlight. It must be unhappy without enough sun........:1thumbup:
Cheers |
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well everyone it is already haveing partial shade and already some parts of the plant recives direct sun...for a little time
Ken |
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still, you should give it more light, it likes light.....'
Cheers |
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, bical take a long time to settle.Just give it more time.If it found something not suitable,it will stop growing. The bical pitcher is thick, thats why the shape stays same although dead.Did u feed the bical anything?Last time i just feed my bical 1 dot of small fish pellet and a week later the whole pitcher and leaf gone black.

Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Alien
No Prob will wait and be patient.......The bical is healthy looking but it just doesn't grow thats all......I did not feed anything.... Ken |
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bical takes more time to adaptation.
mine start pitchering after 6-8 months.and only make 2-3 leaves. you have to be patient. dont move and dont disturb the root. |
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just be patient it will grow... try giving it more direct sunlight... as long as the stem is firm then you got nothing to worry just be patient.... oh not to scare you or anything a friend of mine bicalcarata stopped pitchering once... and took 2 years before it starts to learn making new pitchers... not so sure what happened though i never asked...

Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My hookeriana is fine with some shade.......like what bonsay said, do you have pictures? Hookers can do well in pure LFS since I potted my hooker in pure LFS. If the cups dried up, it means you didn't water it enough.
Cheers |
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
elloes.. all =) i water my N.hookriana 2 days once..i tried to giv them sunlight but their leaves just dried up :crying:
Here are the photoes- A dried cup https://forum.petpitcher.net/C:\U...Z\DSC00225.JPG Dried leaves https://forum.petpitcher.net/C:\U...DSC00226...jpg sob sob help my plant.. Btw can that cause of my soil? cause i dint change the soil.. i think im usng organic soil now -.-" cause its black in colour.. lol im buying dry moss when i gt time |
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
xMagicsZ, how long have you been keeping the hookeriana? what was the conds when you bought it? perhaps it was recently potted by the seller.
when you brought the plant home it shouldn't be exposed to direct sun. Keep it in fully cool and shaded area for acclimatisation until new leaves formed. This may take 4-6 weeks. Only at this stage new roots are formed ( but check out for reassurance). I'm posting an example here. A basal cutting placed for rooting since 02.11.2008. Note the half dried leaves. The growth point didn't dried up and soon new leaves will formed. http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...u/DSCN4425.jpg The black soil (peat ) get compacted after adding water. Add 30%-40% perlite to provide a well drain media. All neps ( regardless of H/L or L/L )will do well with loose and well drain media. |
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't even see the pics BTW........If you are using organic soil then you should change it...........

Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well the plant look ok to me, not as serious as ( without pics when you first post), a pitcher and 1-2 leaves drying up it was going thr' a normal process.
|
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It would be best to switch to LFS and perlite mix, that should be ok. Organic soil may contain some minerals that aren't good for the hooker. Water it once every 2 days like what you did, hookers don't like wet soil watered everyday. Keep it in shade like what you are doing so it acclimatises.......

Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi everyone
Just to update i have move my bical to a sunnier spot and i put it on a long tray and elevate it with pebbles as i heard this also raises humidity.....I don't know how much but i hope it helps Ken |
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It wil help kenneth, it will. Just let your bical be first, then it will slowly acclimatise to your environment. I am not sure how long, since you actuallly REPOT it in a new media, but the one I got from Fauzi has fully acclimatised. One pitcher is dead, after suspended animation for the last whole week, a new pitcher is forming, and a new leaf is already coming out.
Conclusion, bicals are tough enough to adapt. Cheers |
Re: A cry for.....HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Ed
Well okays thanks now that i noe it raises humidity i also put my little ventricosa there also. About the repotting thing I didn't repot it at all BTW......It came to me in a zip lock bag roots wraped with spahgmum moss and also covered with tissues the roots part so duh...of cos i have to put it in a pot haha...
