Outing to Genting Highlands
Dear members,
I will be organising a trip to Genting Highlands this Sunday, 1 March 2009 to see wild Nepenthes. There are N. sanguinea, N. macfarlanei, N. ramispina and some hybrids between these 3 species in this location. It is an easy walk of about 200 meters and the terrain is leveled. So anyone can make it as it is an easy walk. On top of that you get to enjoy the nice cool air of Genting Highlands. The drive up Genting from our meeting point in Desa Aman Puri is about 40 minutes. Just a reminder on some things that you should bring/wear: - Bring loads of water - Wear long pants - Wear comfortable walking shoes - Bring extra t-shirt if you want to be dry - Camera - Rain coat/umbrella in case it rains and you do not want to get wet - Axe/knives/swords/parang/spear... just kidding! It's a safe trip. Some guidelines: - Please do not poach the plants during/after the trip - Please do not advertise the location to others - For those below 16 years, please get consent from your parents. Better if your parents can be there "Explore, enjoy and protect the planet." Details: - Date: Sunday, 1 March 09 - Start Journey to Genting: 1pm sharp - Meeting Location: Desa Aman Puri Shell station / Mc Donalds - Back Home: evening approximately 6-7 pm - Might plan dinner if the majority wants to. Dinner will be at your own expense |

Wow! Fantastic trip you guys, really sorry I couldn't make it! The N. sanguinea is amazing...good thing you added the 'size comparison' shots - your Thai friends are really small! Really sorry about the poor bear...must have been a poacher after his gall bladder for Chinese medicine!

Re: Outing to Genting Highlands
Haa, haa... Shawn! Most probably... and they also would have taken the intestines etc for other purposes as well.

Re: Outing to Genting Highlands
The second last picture... I look a "Sua Ku" (Hokkian word for someone out from jungle/village seeing the city for the first time).
|
Re: Outing to Genting Highlands
David, I think it's the reverse, you look like someone from the city seeing the jungle for the 1st time
|
Re: Outing to Genting Highlands
MAN, I wish I could have been there with you guys! It looks like a fantastic trip with loads and loads of rewards for the effort!
|
Re: Outing to Genting Highlands
Athene,
Yaa... I think city life is starting to seep into my blood and the additional weight growing on my belly is not helping. :) Shawn, I think you would be thrill with the ferns there. We miss you there. Just let me know if you ever drop by KL and I will take you up. :) By the way, I saw some huge tree ferns there and remembered you said you wanted the spores. But the plants are growing 2000 feet above sea level. You said you wanted spores from plants growing at sea level right. |
Re: Outing to Genting Highlands
Thanks David, I think you were right to pass on the spores...I'm at about 20 m.a.s.l. and our heat would probably be too much for them. On the other hand, if it is ever really easy to collect them, I'm willing to try!
|
Re: Outing to Genting Highlands
Ok shawn. will keep that in mind. Will collect the spores for you when I have another opportunity.
|
