Stunted Neps = Bonsai Neps - sharing some pics

Given that I live in an apartment as large as someone's chicken coop (yeh, that was what I was told LOL ), many of the plants at my balcony ain't as large as they should be. Despite that, many of them have got good leaf : pitcher ratio. Most of the time, the pitcher is more than half the length of the leaf. Otherwise, the plants have got multiple basal/lateral shoots.

The measurements taken were of the leaf with the newest fully developed pitcher (lid excluded).

Hi Cindy,
Given your growing conditions, you still managed to grow some very impressive plants, have to give you a BIG salute !!
Always a pleasure looking at your plants.... Thanks.

We have a nick name for Cindy, but we've not been using it lately. We call her the "CP Queen".

Cindy,

Your hooker picther is huge in comparison with the plant and leaves. Love it! I can't help but think of a coconut tree when I look at your N. maxima x ventricosa... Haa, haaa, a coconut tree with elongated coconuts growing from the leaves. Like the nice clean green on your albo.

Great plants Cindy.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.

I have limited space and unfortunately have to constrict the plants in small pots. Not sure if anyone noticed, but the maxima x ventricosa is in a thumbpot. Amazing! I am not repotting because the plant is happily producing pitchers.

Three things I hope for in my "chicken coop". Neps that will pitcher on every leaf, Neps that stays compact and Neps that turns out to be female.

Hi Cindy

Yah i get what you mean by limited growing space i can only grow all my plants in my tiny balcony. Most of my pot are 15" in diameter biggest 20".Do u grow your albo's in intermediate conditions or in lowland conditons or HL???

Ken, all my Neps are at my balcony in lowland conditions. I don't grow anything that needs extra cooling. So intermediate plants like N. fusca 'Sarawak' will do well for 2/3 of the year and stop growing during the months with really hot nights.

N. albomarginata is considered a intermediate plant because it does well in both lowland and highland conditions. Probably the reason why N. albomarginata is by far the most vigorous plant at my balcony. I have a few forms and all of them pitcher year round.

Hi Cindy,
Since we're talking abt albo, may I ask you some questions about albo?

Do you find different form of albo have different light requirement? Like green, Penang red, rubra, kuching spotted and etc? Thanks.

cpnut, I have the Kuching spotted, purple/black, rubra, all green and red speckled forms. They all over the place at my balcony,. Some of them in bright shade the whole day while the other are in very bright shade the entire day and direct sunlight in the late afternoon. I haven't noticed any difference in the need for light except that the young plants (~3") do not need a lot of light to pitcher.

I move them around sometimes to make space for other plants but they don't seem to be affected by the change in light intensity.

huh?

You meant albos?

Re: Stunted Neps = Bonsai Neps - sharing some pics

Robert,
Haha...

Cindy,
Thanks for "overwhelming" feedback.... :2thumbup: Anyway, looking at many pics that you took for your albos, the plants and it's pitchers were all in very good condition. From your experience, have you ever notice the red picther variant to get bleach by sunlight like viking? Thanks again for helping.

i dont think your neps look stunted

Cindy 12th September 2008 11:27 PM

Re: Stunted Neps = Bonsai Neps - sharing some pics

cpnut, not for the rubra form I have.

malowie, for anyone who bought a similar species of the same size...their plant is probably twice if not thrice the size or height. For N. reinwardtiana, the cutting I gave away 2 years ago have become a very long vine for the new grower and even flowered. The pitchers for him is about 4"-5".
