from experience in growing leaf pulling outdoors, they will grow very slowly & they won`t mature to a size which is justifiable to our effort. Usually the heat will get to them before they can grow 'large'. i`m not a detailed grower tho so i stand corrected. but sigh.....love cephs but they are not happy growers in our weather.

agree on that, but looking at what you have the last time I paid you a visit, still drooling, especially your sarrs, poisoning XD

btw, is it ok to grow them under shades? I hide then among my nep collection where the temperature were more cooling

Well, I'm planning to use about 1/2 cm of aquarium sand as top layer. Rest of the media is peat moss + aquarium sand, water everyday.

I read somewhere in the web saying that a good way of growing big and colourf pitchers is by first putting the ceph under shade until pitchers are big and green, then slowly exposing to light until full sunlight to get redder pitchers. Going to try this when I get my ceph this weekend.

well, from my experiment with aquarium sand, it's something that keeps water and keep the medium soggy, pretty suprise by that, go for other stuff like perlite since it's proven to be airy

Heh, I seriously hate perlite now. Stick to your hand and stuff like that and it holds a lot of water too. The aquarium sand I bought is about 1mm in diameter, not the fine sand like in children playground  is yours the same as mine?

Reading around, some sources say that sand is very helpful to keep the soil from breaking down and compacting the roots too much. And I'll say that aquarium sand looks nice too

Soo : i don`t know enuff to advice you as the heat levels in your house are different from mine. In my house, the cephs get angled a`noon sun for like less than 1 hour from about 2-4 pm ( time fluctuates )
Sarras ? heheh, those grow quite well in our weather. The dormancy resistant clones are even more interesting. Trial by experiment.

yes, the 1mm diameter type, if you use it, the surface might looks dry, but when you dig in, inside is wet(after 5 days without watering, a small pot), you can imagine using that now, I use it because I read some online information too, look nice as well, but too bad, don't work out well for me

icic, mine expose to morning sun before 10am only, found that my backyard is quite cooling(temperature never exceed 28 Celcius) as compared to the front of my house(goes over 30 Celcius in the afternoon), trying out to grow them in both front and back of my house after splitting the original pot into many plantlets

Got any extra baby sarrs to let go? Want to play pure species, not into hybrid :)

since you are growing cephs outdoor...do you have luck on the plantlets? out of topic...how's the fusca doing in your "backyard"?
