Re: Nepenthes seeds for sale

For the seeds, do I treat them the same as Drosera seeds? I.e. moss + pearlite, soak in 1-2cm water tray, and cover with a few holes?

Re: Nepenthes seeds for sale

I usually sow the seeds on moist coco peat. No cover because the humidity in my place quite high. Put them under 70% shade. Germinate in 1 - 2 months time.

Re: Nepenthes seeds for sale

i notice that cocopeat dries out quickly!

so should i provide a water tray for it to germinate neps on them?

In that case, pls add 1 bag of coco peat into shopping list. Would like to experiment different condition under similar environment. Do you hv other seeds for sale?
1. When you said moist coco peat, do you soak-then-drain, water-till-wet, or spray-until-top wet?
2. Is it a good idea to hand spray on top of seeds? Of course nozzle will be at min size to create mist-like, but will the water pressure from spray hurts the potential seedlings?

Re: Nepenthes seeds for sale

1. Soak then drain.
2. Yes. You can hand spray the seeds. It won't hurt the seedlings.

You can also use water tray. Hmmm.... Let's start a poll on this

My seeds haven;t germinated but they look good :) Not rotting whatsoever

Re: Nepenthes seeds for sale

Bactrus, point us to the poll if you have set it up :)

For me, I use the water tray method and Cocopeat.

How do I know if it is too wet? When molds start to grow, then it's too wet :(

How do I know if it is too dry? If the cocopeat on top is light brown and you can blow on them and they move! :(

Water tray, probably best if you let the water tray dry out for one day before replenishing. Make sure you have at least 3 inches height of cocopeat medium or else it might get too soggy/wet. Water tray is 1/4 inches high or less.

I also often put a humidity dome on my seeds, they seem to like it when I do, but maybe also because it lessens the amount of sunlight a bit.

no rot means good!
u see carefully at the seed's embryo.like i,i see nothing until i look closely to the embryo, then i see a tiny green nub coming on each seed(mine 4 so far).

Re: Nepenthes seeds for sale

Just checked my seed boxes.
Mirabilis var Globosa
4 of 15 in covered coco peat(water tray) germinated. 2 of them has >2mm sprout.
1 of 15 in covered sphagnum moss(water tray) just started to germinate.

Too early to draw conclusion, but coco peat seems to be lazyman's choice: No chopping of sm, and no need to spray by using water tray. Covered sm in water tray seems too wet.

Mirabilis
0 of 10 in covered sphagnum moss(water tray)
0 of 10 in covered coco peat(water tray)
0 of 10 in covered sphagnum moss(spray)
0 of 10 in covered coco peat(spray)
0 of 10 in not-covered sphagnum moss(water tray)
0 of 10 in not-covered coco peat(water tray)

Btw, thx for the reminder, thought it's too early to look.
