Re: Tree shrew problem

it can be very simple, as most people around, I'd love to have nice flora and fauna around...but once it goes over the limit, it means declaring war, wipe it out then:1thumbup:

cruel but need to face the fact :)

Rats are smart and cunning...if you use trap that has caught other rat beforehand, they will never go near it as it has got the scent of the other rat on it. You need to rinse the trap with hot water and then submerged it in water for few hours to get rid of the scent.

Another alternative is to use rat glue. There are two type, one is odorless and the other stink like mad...the choice is yours. Just aplly on a piece of plank and place a bait on it.

ps: When using rat poison, make sure you place a bowl of water nearby. This is because the poison only works if the rat drink water after consuming it.

Thx a lot guys for ur reply. I guess generally it is down to rat poison and caging. But i like the idea from AngkauTekor & CWay. Maybe if we can spray something that are very detestful to them mayb they wont come back....

Re: Tree shrew problem

My problems with rat tearing and chewing my pitcher is not that big... as it only happens once a while. My biggest problems are my dogs that will go nuts chasing those rats, tipping over pots of my neps, sometimes even snapping the main branch of my neps... Many neps that were growing nice have to be "restarted" again because it was up rooted or being damaged... :sweating::crying::unsure:

i would NOT be happy if this was happening to my plants. Maybe try blowing some of there brains out and pile the rodent bodies somewhere away from the plants, to attract them elsewhere. Those are your babies guys, dont think i am being too morbid;show them who’s boss ;) cheeze wrapped around decon works really good too..

Re: Tree shrew problem

Oh, monkey is the real serious problem. They steal, they rob and they breed all the time.
No other better solution than to pouch them / poison them. I seen place with over populated pigtail macaque. It's hell. They're the mini version of terrorist!!

Re: Tree shrew problem

we dont have pigtail macaque here.....long tailed macaque is abundant infact over populated....they terrorized the Resort as well as the village areas. overlysmartass as they dont take baits, even at the very moment they see handsling, they will immediately find covers......they will tear off the pitchers, the leaves and the young shoots, jumped on the house roofs and sheds like playground.....total disaster.....

but coming back to the smaller version of destruction faced by jimmy and many others, i would like to check on something.....does the neps actually in hangpots? does your area has fruitbats.....not the flying fox but the small frugivorous bats.........? they posed the same problem as rats does....so, you have to determine whether you suffered from land or aerial attacks.....

Re: Tree shrew problem

Oh paiseh! It's supposed to be long tailed, not pig tailed *blush*
Yes, they're way too smart to the extend they become a nuisance. They form their own gangs and imagine you have few gangs near your house. No easy way out.
