Yes, they're way too smart to the extend they become a nuisance. They form their own gangs and imagine you have few gangs near your house. No easy way out.

Ya this is what happen to me. They (tree shrew) like to come in gang and sometime u can hear them fighting with their rat-like noise and run around like mad bull knocking off my pot:spinning:. They usually very violent in that sort of way :glare:. I guess it's the same for all animal no matter where u r.

LOL. Life must be merrier with you 'neighbour' around.
My cats sometimes did that too, chasing around and climb up the tables where I place my plants. Then I'll just take out my rotan and they will know it is 'no-running-and-chasing-in-prohibited-area' Hahaha.

cats are trouble maker to me, no difference from those rodents, at times they crap around my nep section, some times they tear off my pitchers...hate cats the most, that's why whichever pests visit me, I'll tear them apart, hanging their skulls arounds

Apuuuu... are those your cats? LOL. I just give them rotan one time when they try to be funny with my nep and they straight away know that they must not try to be funny with that round hanging thing any more.

nope, those are not mine, there is a weird crap near my house with a house full of cats, inside and outside, the number...well 3 digit, and normally there are no one around, sounds strange yah, it'll be great if I can see it burned down to ashes since it leaves the cats to run free, they vandalized things around my place and once you try to teach them a lesson, they came back for revenge, well, since that's the case, WAR...

for a family consist of all the glorious predators...cats...what a disgrace...

lol then u guys need what i have, a miniature pincher. He is a breed of dog SPECIFICALLY trained in the olden days to hunt and kill rodents =) I trained him though to be sweet with my chinchilla, since he is in fact a tibetan squirrel.

Another alternative is to use rat glue. There are two type, one is odorless and the other stink like mad...the choice is yours. Just aplly on a piece of plank and place a bait on it.

ps: When using rat poison, make sure you place a bowl of water nearby. This is because the poison only works if the rat drink water after consuming it.

Thanks again for the details. I realise I did not try rat glue yet and when I'm using rat poison I did not place a water bowl nearby. I also did not properly clean the rat cage when the last one was caught about a month ago...

In other words there is HOPE *biggrin2*

Many neps that were growing nice have to be "restarted" again because it was up rooted or being damaged...

Yeah, I think it's worth the while to spare the anguish of a few damaged plants and to have your dogs guard your property though...if they are good at that...

Behold, let me present you with the ultimate solution... be it rats or tree shrews or mickey mouse...

Their doom's day is here! I have 4 of them and even the toad hardly have any peaceful days to live with!

Just drop me a message if you need one. LOL

Pest control!! *biggrin2* They say that Japanese bobtail cats (supposedly our kampung cats brought to Japan and stylised as a breed) are good in their hunting skills. Someone told me once that her cat actually killed lizards, rats and birds but didn't eat it, brought it to her instead.....:spinning:

Happens whenever I'm doing my gardening on some Sunday mornings. They like to run across in front of me then stop, look at me for a second and dash off.... And can you believe we are actually related to these guys, seriously???

Vince, are Schnauzers also good for hunting rats? I was thinking of getting one as it doesn't shed its fur so much like most other dogs and it's not such a big breed so it can reach into some tight corners....I don't fancy pinschers as they bark too noisily for their small size...:spinning:
