Re: New Sarra

All CPs attract bugs in they're own special way...............

If i'm not wrong i think sarrs don't produce they're own digestive enzymes and collect rainwater and those bacterial stuff.......Cos my new big pitchers have no water in them...

Re: New Sarra

Sarra's do attract insects them selves and they also produce digestive enzymes. Purpureas are the only Sarra's that you should add water to the traps. Because of their natural growth habit they fill with water when it rains and this aids digestion. The others do not require water and will digest insects by themselves. They do not have water filled traps as Nep's do but they still digest and absorb nutrients.

Re: New Sarra

Sarracenias attract insects through nectar and colour. Sarracenia purpurea does not have much digestive acid and drowns insects. Flava, alata, leucophllya, oreophila and rubra uses digestive juices that you cannot see when their pitcher opens. They will secrete digestive juices when an insect has been trapped and the liquid level will rise up slowly over time. Sarracenia minor and psitticana have weak digestive juices or none at all.

Marvin, is your new sarracenia pitcher short? And is the lid covering the pitcher?

Oh, that one. It is a hybrid between sarracenia purpurea and another species.

Nice plant, why didn't you get flava?

You can identify them like that?

Re: New Sarra

I would suggest purpurea x leucophyla. The coloration of the pictures (white sections) and the ruffled lid look like leuco traits more than minor.
