New Sarra
 

I got a new Sarra from the New Trio Products nursery,Tropicana that David got his UM,Cepwhatwhat.....
Anyways,does Sarras like full sun?Must the pitchers filled with water like other pitcher plants?And what about......fish food?(silly question:tongue:)

Sarrs like direct sun as much as possible....You can fill it with rainwater as some sarrs don't produce they're own digestive enzymes and no fish foods hehehe

Hi Marvin, give your Sarra as much sun as you can. They require a lot of light to grow well. If you can provide full sun for the whole day they should thrive for you. Which sarra did you get?

They also like to be kept very wet. Make sure you use the tray method and ensure there is always plenty of water in there. Cheers.

Is your sarra the tall green guy, or the purple and squat guy? Anyways, sarras like full sunlight to get the perfect colour and best growth. Keep them in the water tray all the time, there is no need to fill up water if you bought sarracenia flava, the tall green guy.

So you bought a Cephalotus? Well, congrats. Have a good time to make the ceph acclimatise to your area. David told me that cephs do best in peat moss and perlite mix. I will be repotting my ceph soon. Don't overwater the ceph and don't leave it in the water tray. If you want bigger pitchers, give it a cool environment and lesser sunlight. if you want colourful pitchers, give it full sunlight, although the pitchers will be smaller.

P.S, don't feed with fish food. Sarras are PIGS outdoors, they catch lot of insects. Cephalotus can do with small and tiny ants.

Not wanting to hijack this thread Edward but my Ceph is growing in pure long fibre sphagnum and sits in at least an inch of water year round. Differnet things work for different people and different situations. I initially had mine in a peat mix but it wasn't growing well so I tried the LFS and it has not looked back since. I had a look a few days ago and it now appears to have a few growth points. It still isn't very big yet but it is just coming into the growing season now.

Strath, I got the info from David. He said that his cephalotus grew better in peat and sand mix.

Nono Edwardyyeeks I did not but a Ceph although I think I saw a Ceph there.
I was saying I bought the Sarra where David bought his Ceph(maybe).

Forgot to mention,I bought the thin red one.It cost me RM20.(original RM28)My Mum bargained with the boss.
