Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
Its really huge for the N.diatas i thought it size will be like the 5cm pot plant. You did mention that the plant was huge in previous post so is the rest of the plant send out this huge too?
|
Re: Nepenthes Group purchase

the species that i mention is larger then normal(around 10cm diameter), others is smaller or only normal size only, but no worry, only N.hirsuta x rafflesiana quite small this time, but they have a lot of shoots:smile: |
Re: Nepenthes Group purchase

Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
Spent 2-3hrs on potting neps and prep Sarra seeds for stratification. Labels of all neps except N.Syurga drops off, so doing my best to id some of them. Let me know if I mis-id some of them.
My N.Syurga. http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/8778/allensyurga.jpg First and easiest to id of all, N. burbidgeae × edwardsiana. Unfortunately mine is not HUGE as shown by Allen. Looks like I'm not one of his fav customer. Nevertheless, it's my favorite neps right now. The influences of edwardsiana to peristome is remarkable. http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/7108/allenbne.jpg http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/2415/allenbne1.jpg This looks like veitchii pink, with a yamseng pitcher. http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/3...enveitchii.jpg I think this is madagascariensis. http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/814/allenmada.jpg With all these id, the remaining should be Konak. http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/8035/allenkonak.jpg |
Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
Well at least you have one young pitcher for N. burbidgeae × edwardsiana as mine just have one brownish pitcher. I think you id madagascariensis is correct as mine also like this. You use peat moss + perlite?
|
Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
I'm just joking on fav customer part. Just happy to hv received the plants. You're right on peat moss, I ran out of material for media. Only able to go to Mr Lim's place this weekend. I do combine peat moss+perlite+charcoal+some coco peat. N.Syurga with more perlite+charcoal as compared with peat moss, follow by BurxEd, then veitchii, Konak, madagas.
My "Veitchii" and "Konak" doesn't looks like the one in the web. Maybe Allen can help to confirm. |
Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
Allen must have randomly chosen for us and i not complaining as all the plant were in good condition. Hmm wonder how he choose for us. Just need to be patient for them to grow and develop and once mature i think it will turn out to be the likes of the one you saw from web.

Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
alpiner, congratulations for the plants that you had received, you had id them correctly, about the N.burbidgee x edwardsiana, i pick them out ramdomly, as the plants were late and arrive around 3.30pm, some i had label with some sticker with it, but some i just label them on the plastic, as they are quite obvious
jimmy, good to hear that you had received healthy plants, if you curious on how i select the plants, i wont mind share them with you as i received the plants, i separate them according to name/physical appearance and just simply grab a plants according to the orders, as bigger plants tends to be on top of the plants, and coincidentally,i pack the orders starting from the top to the bottom one |
Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
next time make sure u place your order earlier , then you order will be at the top section and you have higher chance to get "bigger" plant.. Am I right?
|
Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
received my order last night, the n hirsuta x raff looks like a medusa's hair....have to wait for it to grow bigger before cutting them off for extra cuttings and have a "cleaner look" plant....the n x syurga (ventricosa x northiana) looks fine to me...hope that its peristome will have both parent's gene in it....
just be cautious for those who had purchased crosses involving intermediate and highland parentage. to provide airier growing media as they will not grow well if their roots gets "suffocated" in wet and compact media....new leaves will grow smaller, no pitchers and eventually perish if the condition does not improve...this is based on tips given by the sifus and my personal experience.. |
Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
Thx for the advice. These few days rain all the time and now need to take in once the rain start:(

Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
i know what you mean but recently bought a few small nep that grows better if the media is not constantly wet so is not trouble to bring it out of the rain since only few pots. Anyway, if left outside any way to prevent from getting much of the rain water?
|
Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
hmm....i can basically guess tht you are staying in a unit with lawn/ garden area right? construct a basic shed and covers the top with clear plastic/ shadecloth lor....i bet that your collection will grows later...very strong poison...:shy:
|
Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
Yes you are right. I did put shade cloth but i think it is still insufficient as heavy rain still get to pass through a lot. I just afraid it become too moist and rot easily as it is still a small plant. I'll think of something....
|
Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
Well,if you think too much rain will make the media wet, then you can add in some media like coconut peat/chunck/fibre, pearlite, charcoal, burnt soil into the media instead using pure sphagnum moss,
If you concern that media like pearlite will flood out once the pot fill with rain or peat flow out from the pot through drainage hole in the pot, you can use sphagnum moss as a layer on top and bottom to keep them stay at there place, hope this will help you. My humble opinion is that plants really do not need much care, they are much tolerant and stronger than what we think. |
Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
I GOT MINE PLANTS JUST NOW. POTTED THEM UP . DONE !!

Re: Nepenthes Group purchase
