Wow, that's really impressive. That is a great basement you have there.

Re: basement jungle
Wow! That's a lot of plants. I can see you use every inch of space you have there. Can I know what type of lighting you are using? Thanks.

Talking about effective use of space. Here is my wall of maxima seedlings http://www.3ddart.com/neps/maxima_seedlings.jpg |
Re: basement jungle
Hey Boris, Great plan on that wall of seedlings! I love it! Thanks for a great example, I've got so many seedlings that all spaces in my greenhouses are full already! This could open up some table space. I already hang baskets but hadn't thought of using the wall spaces this effectively!

Re: basement jungle
wow ... great greenhouse you've got there. That's a jungle. I wish I could grow my neps outside all the year but our winters aren't suitable even for the most ultra-highlanders. That would be a bit more friendly for the electricity bill. But nevertheless I already plan a big lowland terrarium for our livingroom. My wife already said yes because she wants to see me more often upstairs ;)
Also I'll get another greenhouse which I'll put in another basement room. So my seedlings will get some more space to get bigger. Drilling the holes and preparing the wires for your many seedling pots will keep you busy for a while *biggrin2* |
Re: basement jungle
Hi Boris, Believe me - whatever you saved on the electric bill you'd make up for in pots, media and water!
That's a good plan you worked out with the wife, I've seen some photos of amazing in-house terrariums on the web. Regarding drilling the holes and preping the wires - Hmmm maybe I could put up a velcro wall and glue little squares to the back of the pots! By the way, in your first photo there's a tall grass-like plant (more onion-like). Any idea what it is? I have them coming up in some of my older neps baskets too and have no idea as they must have been in the media when I bought the plants a loooong time ago. I like them as a contrast to the nep form. |

I think that grass like plant is some juncus species. Meanwhile I've got a lot of them and I also like them. The biggest in the greenhouse are over 1 m tall. Some nepenthes tendrils also used them as climbing aid. |
Re: basement jungle
Here's the grass-like one in a ventrata basket. This is a few weeks ago and it's already way outgrown the Nep! I hadn't considered them getting 1 meter tall though!
