Just want to share picturs of my N. globosa. It has finally pitcher for me. Bought this from Neofarm in Thailand about 2-3 months back.
I grow it under florencent lights.

As mentionsed by other growers, the pitcher colours are redder when it is covered from the sun. I was a little cynical about this but as you can see the pitchers on my plant have unbalanced coloration. The redder parts were blocked from the lightings. In the first picture the ladders were covered by another pot and it seems redder.
Wonder if this is really true or it's just a coincidance. It also produces long tendrils, perhaps to hide it's pitchers from the sun.
N. globosa seem to be a very vigorous grower.

Imagine a cross with amp or hookeriana http://s4.images.proboards.com/cool.gif. It is worth a try to provide shade to the pitcher to see if they will turn redder.I have read from many comment that shade is a factor.

This species seem to recover from shock quite quickly. It came bare root. There were 2 pitchers on the plant when it arrived but they turned brown and died off. However, the plant did not wilt and started growing new leaves after a few days. The leaves on the plant are all new leaves. When it came the old leaves had the rust spot fungus on its leaves. I have removed all the old leaves since.
I use one part New Zealand Sphagnum Moss and one part perlite. Perhaps there might be more perlite in the mix.
Err, the price aaahhh... Very expensive. It was sold in Thai Baht. After conversion it is about RM300. Yaa... I know, I know, I must be crazy to buy it but it is my dream plant to have. I figure why not. After this when the plant start to vine I can do cuttings and have more plants.

Maybe i'll actually take a cloth or something and cover a new developing pitcher to see whether it is really true that it turns redder with shade.
Robert, you knwo what am thinking? Cross this fella with a red ampularia. I think a cross with hookeriana would be cool too.

Nice Globosa pitchers. Don't have to go so far to know how a rm300 nep looks like. Just visit David's place. LOL

« Reply #9 on Feb 6, 2007, 6:28pm »http://s4.images.proboards.com/buttons/modify.gif http://s4.images.proboards.com/buttons/delete.gif The red amp. seem to be slower in recovering from repotting stress. It also came bare root. But in the last week it has started to grow a new pitcher. Will keep you guys updated on it.
Eh, by the way, my N. globosa has given me 3 more pitchers since the picture was taken. Cool! Vary happy about it. But only thing I don know why the pitchers are not that red. It's similar to what you can see in the picture. When the plant came, there was one pitcher on it and it was almost blood red.
Wonder why. Need to experiment on light levels and see if that affects the colour.

What kind of fluorescent light are you using, in terms of watt, lumen output etc.

Yyupe! I purposely ask for this form from Mr. Nong from Neofarm in Thailand. I wanted one which is oval in shape and look more like a viking ship.
I am using aquarium plant florencent lights. 4 four feet tubes. The lights are switch on 16 hours a day and I use mirror image reflectors and allumunium sheets to reflect light back on the plants. The florencent lights are 18 watts each. Did not check the lumens tho'. I use 3 white and one purple red light. It's ok for my neps and sundews but not really enough for my VFT (red dragon).
However, I've shifted the plant out to my window where the rest of my neps are. Growth has slowed down since. This is because it kept raining every afternoon when the sun is suppose to hit my plants. Sigh... and we've only ourselves to blame for this as it is due to global warming. It is suppose to be hot and dry now but instead we are getting thunderstorms.
No choice. No more space in my terrarium. More than half the space is filled with sundews and VFTs. The rest of the space are nep plantlets. Soon my whole 4feet set up will only have sundews.
How nice if I have landed property with a garden. Will buid a shadehouse to place all my neps. They will look healthier too.
