i see the form mentioned import and export only. where does it said growers required permit?

Actually, it stated quite clearly in second and third paragraph on import OR export OR in possesion/cultivation, so it's pretty clear.

This akta covers whatever species listed in CITES. That also means a lot of orchid species and not only about neps...

Fauzi is in the process of asking Agriculture Department this week, let's wait what he will find out.

If all CITES are included, including flora and fauna, exotic pet lovers, carnivorous plants lovers and orchid growers must unite to complain!

Hi everybody,

I've visited the Jab.Pertanian, Jln Sultan Salahuddin yesterday with the attention to get some information pertaining to the AKTA 686. I was told that a special meeting with the importer and exporter of flora and fauna for the Wilayah Persekutuan and Selangor will be held on 13th May 2010. By then the matter pertaining to this AKTA will be finalised by the relevant authorities.

The AKTA is actually to control the import and export of the flora and fauna under CITES Convention. As part of the convention members Malaysia will have to abide by the rules and regulation pertaining to international trade of flora and fauna. I have been told that owner of plants under CITES will need some sort of "Surat Kebenaran" - maybe not to the extend of permit with yearly renewal of which need to be applied from Jabatan Pertanian nearest to their place housing the plants.

I don't think that they are targeting the hobbiest here,as they will not have the manpower to enforce the AKTA. Please remember that Sabah (Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997) and Sarawak (Wildlife Protection Ordinance 1998 to be read together with Sarawak Wildlife protection Rules 1998) is already in effect and in both states permit are required to cultivate this plants. It has not been enforced until now on hobbiest but some people trying to smuggle out the plants or plants part has been arrested and jailed.

I'll get more information after the meeting on 13th May 2010. Once I've got more information I'll post it here.
