Re: How to get suitable water??

Hi

I'm not sure about this don't wanna give wrong advice but u can get RO water from the aquarium shop or something.I'm not that sure but most probally RO water from bottles of water can't be used a forum member told me that.

I don't use RO,distilled or rain water at all for all my neps. They only get rainwater once awhile when its raining heavily with lots of wind.Other than that i use filtered drinking water but it still has minerals in the water in it by all my cp's somehow seems to be fine.To me neps are the most tolerant to other water im not sure bout sundews and other cp's.A temporary water like this shouldn't hurt your plant.

Re: How to get suitable water??

Urr......another name for it uh...Well RO water is a short form for reverse osmois water as most people know.RO water is pure water with little or no minerals, chemicals and chlorine in it so its good for neps...i think 0.0.....Some people for their reef aquarium which is seawater aquarium they mix reverse osmois water in it so thats why i said get from aquarium shop.Maybe the oxygen water can also i also blur blur case a bit.Anyways your CP's will be fine for temporarily like that.

I water all my plants with filtered tap water everyday and there seems to be no problem.

Neps are far more tolearant of salt in the water, they grow on Adelaide tap water which is certain death for most CP.
Experiments done by other members of the APCS have found Sarra and Cephs can handle tap water for a while if water from above and no trays are used. In Melbourne they can grow most of their CP on tap water.
Couple of novel pure water sources, the water that comes out of an air conditioners and the ice that build up in a freezer.

Re: How to get suitable water??

I use rain water when it is available, otherwise just tapwater for my Neps and Drosera

beware, water from your Aircon unit is full of bacteria, have you seen the slime accumulated in the pipes?

Re: How to get suitable water??

If you have time, try to call the makers of bottled water in your area and ask if the water is pure reverse osmisis water without mineral or not. Also ask for pH of water. You want pure water, no mineral added, and hopefully pH of 6 to 7, higher than that, it is alkaline might not be good for plants.

I however agree, I think better that you start your plants to get used to your tap water. However for me I keep tap water at least 1 day in a bottle, then use it. I even put aeration (airpump for aquarium), just an experiment.

Rainwater is still best, free and good for plants, Lucky for me have lots of rain here now.

As for Aircon water, actually it is true that aircon water is almost like rain water, the problem is that they collect on the aircon pan and that is where bacteria and dirt start to thrive. Also I wonder about some metal contaminants that might get mixed in with aircon water.

Good luck!
