Re: Pitchers @ my home
The most interesting thing that draws my attention in your pics are the sphagnum Robert. They really give that look..it's amazing but unfortunately life sphagnum just don't grow well for me and i think it will take all my life for it to grow in all my neps pot:)
I have personally experience that they grow very well in cocopeat rather than dried sphagnum itself. What do you guys think about this? Your collections are really beautiful.Thanx for sharing! BTW,is it possible to show your growing area? How you setup the shade cloths for the plants etc. |
Re: Pitchers @ my home
so nice your N. ampularia series ...^^ ...i like it ...:1thumbup:

Re: Pitchers @ my home
The pitchers on sphagnum moss are terrific

Re: Pitchers @ my home
Thanks everyone for your kind comments.
Ali, LSM is not hard to grow as long as you can maintain the moisture. If the LSM experience dry out periods, it won't grow nicely. Also try to give it at least 50% sunlight, LSM love sun. Hope that helps. My growing area is nothing special, I just try my best to make use of what's available to me to grow my neps. They are all grown outdoor under 50% shade net. |

Rob: :1thumbup: Nice growing, very nice pictures taken as well. Love them all.

Re: Pitchers @ my home
Nepnut,
Do you fertilize your neps? |
Re: Pitchers @ my home
NepNut,
Whoa! Whoa!..Whoa! Whoa!!.. :spinning:.. All I can say is only "Whoa"!!! *biggrin2* |
Re: Pitchers @ my home
all gorgeous, nepnut but my fave will always be your ampu. they are incredible!
|
Re: Pitchers @ my home
Thanks Ed, kit1212, Wong and Shamrock, most of my neps are still young, hope they'll be even beautiful when they reach maturity.
kit1212, I just started using seaweed based fertilizer via foliar spray. I used to apply fertilizer into the pot to fertilize the root zone but I don't like the eventual development of blue green algae slime overtaking the LSM. Whenever I repot I always add some slow release type fertilizer like Osmocote. So far, I haven't encouter any side effect with the application of slow release fertilizers. |
Re: Pitchers @ my home
Thx for the reply.Judging from your beautiful neps, fertilization does help a little. How much strength you use to spray your nep with seaweed fertilizer?
|
Re: Pitchers @ my home
Actually, I just started foliar spray 1 month ago, so I can't comment on it's effect. I guess the osmocotes did help since I've been using them for almost a year now.
For seaweed fertilizer, I use 1/2 the recommended dosage, I suspect full dosage shouldn't be a problem for foliar application but that I have not yet tested. I think for chemical based fertilizers, it probably safer to go down at least 1/4 of the recommended dosage. |
Re: Pitchers @ my home
Ooo.Then, good luck with the fertilization and keep us updated!!Sorry to ask some many questions but roughly how many pellets of osmocote you add?
|
Re: Pitchers @ my home
@@ Very nice collection, Rob. I like the amp and raff so much, thanks for sharing.

Re: Pitchers @ my home
Thanks TS. When can we have the pleasure to see your "little" nep collection?? *biggrin2*
kit1212, It depends on the pot size and the age of the plant. On average I would say about 15-30 pellets per pot. Younger plant will not require that much. If I may add, I would still prefer nepenthes to recieve it's nutrient by capturing it's prey through it's pitcher, even with all the availabilty of man made fertilizers. I still think that's the best way to "fertilize" the neps. |
Re: Pitchers @ my home
Guys,
What really the oscomote fertilizer do?Where can i get them? How do the plants responce to this? How should I apply it? |

It's a slow release pellet type fertilizer. It's apply in the media to fertilize the root zone. These type of fertilizers are often called "Osmocote" because this is the first company to sell it on the market. I know there are other brands of slow release fertilizer in Malaysia that were sold in nuseries but I haven't see the original "Osmocote" sold in northern region. I got my original Osmocote from Thailand, it's widely available there. |
