Re: Carnivorous Plant in australia (Melbourne)
Triffid park has now moved and is further from the city in Somerville. This is on the way to the Mornington Peninsula. The nearest train station is the Somerville station and Triffd Park is then about 5km's. The new setup looks good although I haven't been inside yet. They have an open day at the start of November and there is no minimum spend then. You are able to wonder through the glasshouses and purchase as you like.
As far as seed goes the best way to get seed is to join a Carnivorous Plant Society. In Melbourne this would be the Victorian Carnivorous Plant Society. Membership is only $25 and this gives you 4 journals a year as well as access to the seedbank. They also have monthly meetings and there are usually plants for sale and to give away. I highly recommend it to anyone. As Khoas and Ben mentioned Collectors Corner at Garden World would be easier to get to but they have a much smaller range and it is slightly more expensive. To get here you would need oto catch the trainto springvale and then jump on a bus straight down Springvale Rd towards Aspendale Gardens. Collectors Corner staocks predominantly VFT's (bristle tooth, freak, fang), Sarra's (mainly hybrids but a few species), Nep's (ventricosa, alata and maxima), as well as a few others from time to time. If you are going to the effort to get to one of these places then I would recommend you make it Triffid Park. |
