Nepenthes in YG
Guys,
I saw a thread in GCS forum telling that we can't buy plants from YG nursery in Cameron Highlands. Is that true and i saw some variegated truncata and albo too.:bored: Need help from those who had experience buying plants from them. Thanx! |
Re: Nepenthes in YG
from what i know, we cant really buy directly from the YG nursery. theyve got a shop in cactus valley though..
|
Re: Nepenthes in YG
Ya loh! I went there before.
|
Re: Nepenthes in YG
They are a wholeseller and retailer. If you go to YG nursery directly you can only buy in bulk. But like what malowie said, go to their retail shop at cactus valley to get what you want.
If members here are interested in a particular plant that is not usually sold, we can have a group purchase, but somebody will have to drive up Cameron Highlands to get the plants from YG. |
Re: Nepenthes in YG
Yah! group purchase!! If I go there alone I can't find what I want.
|
Re: Nepenthes in YG
I might be growing this December, maybe with my sister when she come back from Sg.Please tell me what type of plants they'll have for sale.
|
Re: Nepenthes in YG
the plants available there depends on stock movement & their own method of gauging market demands at a particular time / period. we won`t be able to tell you what plants are available there.
even if the neps were there, it might not be for sale as it might not have reached a saleable market size yet. they are an asian ( or mebbe international ) market supplier with their reputation to protect so plse don`t expect to be like the usual nurseries we go to. |

There is some pics taken in YG..it's the rare variegated truncata and albo!:tt1:
I've heard that they are very slow growing plant due to it's less chlorophyll in their leaves. |
Re: Nepenthes in YG
Interestingly, there are a number of Singapore CPers who managed to buy plants from YG. Perhaps it is because they are foreigners.
|
Re: Nepenthes in YG
Then next time pretend to be foreigner lor when in YG.
|
Re: Nepenthes in YG
Yes James,
I was thinking the same as well. |

Re: Nepenthes in YG
haha.. i went to MAHA the other day and asked them why they dont sell direct to us.
apparently theyd rather theyre 'agents' sell the plants for them. its simply amazing how they actually grow that number of plants right? haha |
Re: Nepenthes in YG
Hi Malowie,
They sound hmmmm rather arrogant....its like their to high standard for us(probally just me)sounded like that. There's probally hundreds and hundreds row by row of neps there.Have no idea how they can have quantiti and quality and people said they wanted quality when u have both.QUALITY AND QUANTITI just sounds good...And rejoice my bical cutting has started to grow muahahahahahah hehehe sorry when of topic Ken |
Re: Nepenthes in YG
Maybe we can be a foreigner by making ourself as one.depends on the way we talk(never talk Malay). The way we look!
I think this may work,! |
Re: Nepenthes in YG
Hi Ali
Speaking in malay will probally reveal our "identiti"...Why not try speaking with very very fine english and put on a little acent which some foreigners have then maybe they'll fall for it.Its definitly worth the try after seeing so many neps up there in YG.I know YG existed cos im using their pots hhahahahaha lame i didn't know they sell neps and plants to. Re: Nepenthes in YG
I am sure YG has their own ligetimate reasons for not selling to individual locally. Perhaps they are not so keen to sell to locals individually because they would become a competitor to their distribution channels, ie. other nurseries in Malaysia.
As mentioned earlier they are a wholesaller with one retail shop in CH. So if you are buying in bulk from them they will sell to you and it may be cheaper. I think it is not that they are arrogant. I have spoken to the bosses of YG and bought alot of plants from them before in the past. They are no where near arrogant. And by the way I bought in bulk from them, not a few pots. During MAHA, when Ms. Cheong found out from Tarence that we were interested in Ceph, she purposely brought the stocks down in her own car from CH for us. They have a few nurseries and yes, alot of plants. They purchase in bulk tissue culture plants and grow them by the thousands. They do not only distribute to the nurseries in Malaysia and Singapore but other countries overseas. It's just like EP where they have a minimum order of Aus$500.00 before they would sell you any plant. That's because they cater more for nurseries rather than individuals, but of course if we can afford the Aus$500.00 or we joint together and make a group purchase, they will sell to us. |

Re: Nepenthes in YG
Don't worry about it Ken. Yaa, I've always wanted to buy EP's beautiful hybrid Neps but could never afford it. Maybe we can make a group purchase one of these days. But there's a little hassle... we have to apply for import permit etc. I think Choong (kltower) or Fauzi can help us out here.

Re: Nepenthes in YG
I been in YG and bought some pitcher and drosera from them as individual.
I called them to get direction before I went there. They were not friendly over the phone. I went anyway and found that they were quite friendly. I told them what I was after and they showed me what they had in stock. I think they are very professional. I wanted some of the plants and they told me that they weren't selling because the plant were too young and will not survive in non-expert hand. They did not want to spoilt thier reputation. Personally I understand why they don;t want to entertain retail customer as they will not be able to cope. I think group order is a good idea. and if you are getting one or two plants, it is better to go to thier retail shop. BTW, I am Malaysian so I don't think they entertain only foreigner. I told them I am not dealer and they were still nice to me. However, I did spend hundreds and loaded my whole cars with plants. Yoong |
Re: Nepenthes in YG
I`ve been to YG as well and yes, they were nice. They sell more willingly to private collectors rather than nurseries coz of their reputation being at stake if the plants don`t grow.
Anyway, like David says, Ms Chong & her team of folks were so nice to us at MAHA. I also met the big bosses and they were friendly too. Its best not to criticize or slam YG unless you know the whole story. |

As for YG, please don't blame them if they dont want to sell you plants at the nursery, they're after all a supplier growing and distributing plants to local and overseas nursery, that's why they have a retail store to cater us, the end users. If they openly sell plants to private collector, how would that make their dealers feel? |
