Some paphios

3 Attachment(s)
Hi there
I am kinda newbie with this species. However, bought a couple of these just before CNY. Wondering what species are these and what kind of potting material is suitable. I haven't repotted because want to wait til the flowers drop first.

Thanks in advance.

Oh, one more thing. Was told that these are all hybrids as the nursery have problems getting species because of law.

Gorgeous paphs, cjloong!! And you bought them in flower!! First one is a Maudiae hybrid the second is probably another Maudiae hybrid the third is just kick**s hybrid *biggrin2*. Waiting for the paph experts to comment *biggrin2*

cjloong, great buys you have there!! Which nursery did you get them from? I very rarely see such hybrids abvailable in Penang... funkychips is right. The first 2 are Maudiae-type hybrids, the first one showing more influence from either fairrieanum var. album or superbiens var. album, and the second one more of wardii or sukhakulii. The third one is a complex/novelty hybrid with Paph spicerianum. it may be more difficult to rebloom because spicerianum and its hybrids are generally cool growers. regarding medium, please look up the thread on paphs that funkychips started.. Feel free to add any questions.. Good luck! :)

I got these from the orchid nursery near my house in Happy Garden. Yeah, getting them to rebloom may be difficult.

Anyone knows where I can get paphios, species to be more exact. I talked to the same nursery and they told me that they usually don't bring species because hard to bloom and because of the law.

CJ, I got mine from Lum Chin nursery too. Aside from Maudiae hybrids they also have P delenatii, a species from Vietnam. Go check it out.

P delenatii, do they still have it? The last time I went them, they only have niveum and niveum... How do you differentiate these as all I see are leaves. Heh heh, newbie here.

I think not all species are difficult to grow and rebloom. Most brachys (niveum, concolor, godefroyae, angthong), callosum, and cochlopetalums (liemianum, primulinum etc) are not difficult to grow, provided you understand their requirements. For a newbie, delenatii and niveum are not easy to distinguish. Both have sort of roundish leaves (as opposed to barbatum, which has pointed leaf tips).. :) good luck trying.. Btw, delenatii is a bit picky and may not flower unless provided artificial cooling.

At last!! Suspicious leaf node tries to tell me something wonderful is happening. Also note the little green object between the leaves. Now I noticed that this sign is coincidental with the sudden hot spell just a few weeks after the heavy rains.
