I have been growing sp. Vikings and have come across some with interesting hypothesis. For the most part, I have seen everyone grow Vikings as a hanging basket plant of in smaller pots than desired.
I have grown them in many ways but noticed a few I have grown in large wide pots to do something peculiar.
Has anyone ever had pitchers that appear buried in the soil? A pot I was transplanting had three of its five total pitchers buried in the soil with just the opening of their pitchers at ground level. Then when I came across my fourth plant, I disturbed many tendril tips digging into the surface with some developing under the soil level.
I wish I took some photos of these but by the time this had dawned on me, I repotted most of them into their new pots. But I have moved some from smaller pots back to the wide pots and will post photos when this occurs again.

I have not experienced it before but someone from Singapore have reported on the same hypothesis some time back. The pitcher are totally buried except for the peristome and lid. The pitchers have a darker and richer colouration compared to those that were exposed to sunlight.

Will wait and see if my sp. viking acts the same way.
