mist generator
Since the weather has turned hotter especially near CNY, I just bought 2 units of mist generator that people use for in-house miniature fountain. I got this from local fish shop @ RM38 per unit.
I have my Saracenias in a 1 feet tall foam box & the box will act as water tray too with 1.5" water inside. I put this mist generator into the water tray, I can see mist coming out from water surface & I can feel that the surrounding become more moist. I will let this run 24 hours & see how it helps my plants. Will update again soon |
Re: mist generator
Hi cbkhoon,
If you are using the ultrasound mist unit. I will said, don't on it 24 hours. Below is my experience result. 1. It will generate heat when on over 4hours. You can measure the water tray temperature. ( Don't put your finger in front of the ultrasound clip, it will hurt you) 2. There mister may create high humidity may killed the plant. Make sure the air circulation exist. |

Hi . Eric
I only turn it on during afternoon hot hours. I think this is ultrasound unit, I hurt my finger last nite when i try to move them. Bad idea to move them before turn off the power. For my case, the air circulation around the plant is great. And I dun see any temperature climb after testing for many hours. Will continue to monitor the status and update here. I attached a picture how it mist the surrounding |
Re: mist generator
Don't think you need very sophisticated misting for Sarras. I have them in my balcony sitting in water tray. Change water once a week.

Re: mist generator
For all of you who are comtemplating in doing what ckhoon is doing, I suggest you get an ultrasonic humidifier instead.
For ultrasonic mist generator (umg) you will have the following disadvantages: 1) Heat 2) Not advisable to run (long) continuously 3) The umg only works at a certain depth 4) The spilling/ bubbling water can cause plant close to the umg to be very wet You can get a humidfier for RM100 - RM140. I have seen Watson selling Malaysian brand Felton for RM100. But I bought mine at Parkson for RM119. I was told cheap China brands are selling under RM100. The Felton SC6109 can store 2.5 litres of water. Depending on your setting, you can run for 3 days before refilling. For a closed small tank it can fog up in s few minutes. Choong |
Re: mist generator
I bought mine from KW fish shop in PG.. RM38 per unit, but i sapu the last 2 units, now only left more expensive units and it has many LED lights too.
I have fine-tuned & positioned the mist generator not so close to my plant , the water spill from the unit may get into the pots making it too much water. As for temperature issue, it does not happen to me yet so far. Will keep on monitoring them |
Re: mist generator
if you use ultrasonic humidifier, make sure the tank is cleaned every time you add water. the reason is, i've seen a very bad case of fungal infection to 80% of the plant in a green house!
the owner, a friend of mine just add water to the tank everytime it gets low and even after he can see algae growing in the tank and white fungal spores everywhere in the tank he still ignores it. the result, almost all his plants are infected. and, the higher humidity in the green house also is heaven for these fungal. |
Re: mist generator
Well theres where air circulation comes in.

Re: mist generator
what happen is the fungal spores has started to colonise the water tank and when the misting process started, it will carry the spores with the mist all over the green house. so, just try and clean the water tank often, it is better to be safe than sorry, right?
