N ventricosa basal question

Hi

Well i just realised that my N ventricosa (main plant/mother plant) is not doing well even after the highland conditions i try to give it....But it has 2 basals and has consistenly give me pitchers which get slightly bigger by each leaves. So since the mother plant is not doing that well (i know sounds weird) I want to cut of the whole mother plant straight down to the moss but not touching its roots. The question is after i do this will it affect my basals????The basal is well probally a few months old i forgot how old probally max 4 months...If it will not affect anything i will just cut it off since my main plant is like a horror site hahaha.

Hi, ken

Why would you want to cut of the mother plant? I mean, its not dead yet, right?

Cheers

Well it is not dead sounds weird but i just wanna take down the mother plant so that the basals which are way better looking can be grown by me slowly to a big size plant again.

Sure you can cut it off Ken but it's best to prune it and not cut it.

Hi Ali

What do you mean by prune it?????The leaves of the main plant are fine........Its just that its not pitchering. But the basals are pitchering very nicely.Anyways will cut the whole stem off when i got time.

Hi Malowie

What do you mean supported???????You mean like it has the basals as a backup plant?????If so then yeah it has 2 basals.

Don't repot when they are flowering Ken.

Not a good idea to repot when flowering. I think if you want to cut your mother plant, then it is best to take the cuttings and try to root them in the sphagnum moss you bought.

Ken, pruning is cutting some of the stems off to encourage the growth of pitchers and to prevent the nep from growing to the size of 10 feet. If you prune the nepenthes stem, usually the plant is encouraged to pitcher. Only thing is that it usually grows lower pitchers.

It up to you

Cheers

Hi Edward

Okay so maybe i won't just cut off the whole stem maybe about 3/4 or half of it then maybe it might make a side shoot.....As my balcony is kinda small no place for cuttings.
