YG Park CP nursery
I managed to get a last minute booking for a two-bedroom suite at the Strawberry Park Resort, Cameron Highland for last Monday (29 Dec).
Now RULE #1 is NEVER NEVER go up Cameron Highlands during the weekends and public holidays and especially a long weekend. With the opening of the Simpang Pulai road, there are alot of day trippers. Travellers don't get car-sickness using this straighter road, as opposed to the old Tapah road. And 29 Dec happened to be Awal Muharram, which is a public holiday. Like, when I was up here with David on the Hari Raya Haji weekend, there was traffic jam inching from Tanah Rata going to Trinkap. It is alright if you go the other way. When I was having lunch, the staff told me that the jam was so bad on Sunday that it lasted until 10pm! So much for relaxation in Cameron Highlands. Okay so much for the small talk. The highlight of this trip was the visit of YG Park and in particular its CP nursery. I had to thanked my wife and children for being sooo patience during the hours we were at the nursery. YG Park is a well known supplier of flowering and ornamental plants to the nurseries in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore. In any nursery you visit, you are liable to find potted plants with their pots marked "YG PARK". And in the last 5 years, this establishment have brought in numerous CP plants to satisfy our hunger. Sarracenias, vfts, nepenthes, cephalotus and heliamphora. And their plants are affordable. Just a year ago, the only affordable source of cephalotus is from Cindy. The plants cost between S$40 to $70. YES in Singapore dollars. At YG retail outlet, Cactus Valley, you can get a 3-inch pot for only RM35 (USD10). YG Park is big. I estimate the cp nursery to be the size of a football field. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../PC301067a.jpg Almost all the nepenthes species and hybrids are sourced from Malesiana Tropicals. Many are current MT offerrings. But many clones MT no longer produce (or offer). These plantlets are about 2-4 inch diameter. The sort of "S" size plants MT/BE would sell you. They are NOT FOR SALE. It would be another 2 years before these babies are for sale. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../PC301068a.jpg You will see this beautiful and exotic hybrid in the market. Some of these N. burbidegae x edwardsiana hybrid have 2 inch long pitchers. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../PC301070a.jpg In the short term, you will find alot of medium to large and some extra large veitchii (Bareo and Hose Mountain), x Cemerland, x Lebih, x Konak in the market. There are no more stock of sibuyanensis and chaniana (ex pilosa). Grab them if you can find them. They are big plants and you have to pay BIG US DOLLARS for them from MT/BE. In the pipeline are albomarginata from Kuching (adult plants) and Cameron Highlands (plantlets). Maybe in 2 years will will get spectablis clones, madagasriensis, diatas and some exotic species which MT no longer offers. These are the last remaining pots of heliamphoras. They are reserved and not for sale. Next to the sun pitchers are cephalotus. Well folks, better grab them as there are not many pots left. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../PC301075a.jpg All the sarracenia clones come from Holland. And they don't have names. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../PC301078a.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../PC301077a.jpg And I had to buy this big baby. A leucophylla hybrid. Average pitcher height about 13 inch, mouth diameter 2 inch. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../PC301079a.jpg These plants: veitchii, x Cemerland, x Lebih, and truncata are ready for the market. These are large plants - between 20cm and 30 cm diameter. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../PC301066a.jpg How about this XXL bicalcarata. Didn't ask for the price. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../PC301065a.jpg Hope you will save up some money and go shopping in Cameron Highlands. Choong |

Re: YG Park CP nursery
is this YG park?
i thought YG park was in cactus valley. or is this YG nursery? haha im a bit confused.. i was told that the nursery is in kuala terla.. and i really wanted to go there.. but i didnt have the address of it.. so i only went to YG park :2thumbup: youre so lucky to get there and buy more plants! i wish i could but that heliamphora.. cant find any here.. thanks for the pics :2thumbup: btw, i went there on the 26th to the 29th.. trust me, the jam was horrendous. staying in tanah rata, i had to leave for brinchang (where cactus valley is at about like 7 am every morning before the jam starts ) the problem is, when one person stops, all the cars behind have to stop as well. |
Re: YG Park CP nursery
Malowie,
Cactus Valley is the retail outlet of YG Park. YG Park don't normally entertain individual as they deal wholesale to nurseries. I was lucky and they even show me the nursery. Like I said up there, they have no more heliamphoras. Those are the last ones. They are reserved and are NOT FOR SALE. Choong |

Re: YG Park CP nursery
Wow so many questions. To tell you the truth I was drooling over all the cp plants and blinded to other things.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5.../PC301067e.jpg Robert, I think it is a combinations of misting, drip piping (as used in the growing of strawberries) and running water. In the above photo you will see plants sit on troughs. Water are passed through these troughs. The plants are grown in pure sphagnum moss. So water are then absorbed by the moss. Since this is a highland area, the heavily precipitated air also helps to keep the top layer of moss moist. Lim, The above photo also showed the floor is covered with some kind of plastic. Bonsay, This time of the year is the rainy season, so the temperature is cooler. I estimate the night temp to be 20°C. But I think the wet humid air is more important than low temperature. Varhoon, I have no problem buying three large sarracenia hybrids and a large veitchii (hose mountain). But have to beg before they agreed to sell me N. rhombicaulis (NE-69) and N. diatas (NE-92). The two plants are about 3 inch across. If the trip to CH with David and Dr Charles Clark materialise, I will try to go YG again to get answers for all these questions. Choong |
Re: YG Park CP nursery
Hi.....
But if its in cameron highland then i would think night temps go down to around 15-16C.....don't you think? Ken |
Re: YG Park CP nursery
Choong, you are so lucky to be there to admire those plants, envy.....
Thanks for the pictures, at least now we know roughly in mind what YG Park has and what we should expect in the coming years. Beside the beautiful neps, those sarracenias are gorgeous too, drooling..... |

Re: YG Park CP nursery
Hi all, I like to go CH , I always go there few times a year, this is the first time of 2009. I just back from CH last nite, I went there on 5th Jan, and back on 7th. I choose this date purposely, so that I will not to fall into the traffic jam, I knew it sure happen becoz I waas there during the last Wesak day too, the jam was terrific. I booked a cheap hotel rm50 per room per nite just behind the kentucky area this time. Very convenient to get food & parking, shops are just around.
I had visited YG in kuala terla too. At first I cannot find it by myself, I need to ask around from many local people before I can find the place. I managed to have a short chat with the boss, he took me around the place and I have the chance to ask him many questions on CPs, and also feel glad to know the GM, Ms Cheong. They are all quite friendly but it is tru that they prefer to do wholesale rather than selling one by one. They actually have more than 1 nursery, I am doubt the one that I was visiting is not the big one. I just spend less than 1 hour there coz my other frends were with me and they feel boring. I got their name card before I leave and it has printed YG Park & Cactus Valley both in the same card, I wonder they own the Cactus Valley too. Maybe got share la Saw a lot of Truncata, miranda, gentle, Hookeriana, Sangui, ampul, Albo, Sarra & VFT. There are more CPs but i dunno the names. Also got some big airplants. I dun take many pictures & I only take some using my HP. Wil try to upload some pics when I free. I bought myself some Sarras, Truncata, big size X miranda, Albo, Hooker & Gentle, some from YG & some from other shops. something worth to mention is that there are some cheap CPs from a small stall between Ringlet & Tanah Rata. Selling many other plants too & mostly all the plants are from Thailand, coz the boss is siamese. I got some rock bottom price for 3 pots CPs... thats all, a short report for my CH trip |

As for temperature, it varies from morning, afternoon, evening & nite time. The lowest temperature might reach 16-17 if raining season. The hotest could be 22 in the afternoon. |

Re: YG Park CP nursery
just remember one thing, try to avoid the following in the order:
1)public holidays 2)holiday of state 3)school holiday 4)weekend u may also use the rental price of apartment to judge this, a well-equiped 3-rooms apartment in Desa Anthurium costs u RM180 for non-peak season, it may goes up to RM200, RM250, RM300 and RM400 in CNY. U try call them to check the price, if expensive means sure jam. |
Re: YG Park CP nursery
I sit a coincidence?? I stayed at Desa Anthurium during my last trip to CH. The rooms are quite large.
|
Re: YG Park CP nursery

Re: YG Park CP nursery
Just found this thread.. I might be going to CH at the end of the year (date not confirmed yet) and would like to visit the YG nursery at Kuala Terla. If I'm not mistaken, the last time I was at CH, the outlet at Cactus Valley didn't stock many sarracenias.. But lots of nep sanguinea though.. So is the nursery open to retail customers to look around and buy? Can someone please PM me the ontact number? Thanks :)

Dont go to the Cactus Farm but go to YG Nursery. Cant remember the exact address but it's on the way down from Brinchang. Opposite a tea garden and landmark is a rocket by the roadside......DAP Rocket.

Re: YG Park CP nursery

Re: YG Park CP nursery
Guess they try to discourage small buyers. However if you turn up there, they will let you look round and buy, provided the workers there are not too busy.

Re: YG Park CP nursery

Re: YG Park CP nursery
Guys,
Warning: Quote:
From Simpang Pulai, turn into a small road on your left when you see a large place offering tea and cakes run by one of tea plantations (Not BOH Tea)(on your right). The rocket sign is on your left. There is also an orchid store near the small road junction. Hope the info helps. Choong |
