Experience of N.vogelii
hi there,
I've been facing difficulty to grow this species even other HL species are doing fine within the same area. The plant just keep producing new leafs without any pitcher for the past 3months+. Currently, I am using 100% spag. moss for medium & temp within +/-25dc with 18hrs light. Anyone can advice? Thanks in advance. |
Re: Experience of N.vogelii
also got a vogelii recently. so far, leaves seem to be getting smaller. too early to comment but if my plants survive and put out new leaves, i will be happy!!!

Re: Experience of N.vogelii
Haha... seems I'm not the only one having problem growing N. vogelii. Mine produces tiny pitchers, the newer leaf seems bigger but not sure about how the pitcher size will turn out to be...
I think it would be very helpful if we post some pics of the our vogelii to compare. I assume your's from BE ?? |
Re: Experience of N.vogelii
yes, mine is from BE. but it is too miserable looking to be photograph for now..... pathetic looking thing!

Re: Experience of N.vogelii
I'm guessing all our N. vogelii will be looking miserable , that's why we have to figure out what's wrong and grow them well so it'll look stunning.
It's just to compare notes and exchange info so we all can learn from each other... :1thumbup: |
Re: Experience of N.vogelii
for me N. vogelii is a very easy and fast grower. My plant make really nice and big pictures.
I grow it in my highland trailer also typical highland climate. Maybe a bit to cold but the plant seems to like it :) Jens |
Re: Experience of N.vogelii
Guys,
As far as i know, this sp. is an intermediate so you should provide it wit a bit cooling for it to do well.;) |
Re: Experience of N.vogelii
N. vogelii can be found between 1200-1500m in elevation. (Pitcher Plants of Borneo by A. Phillips, A. Lamb and C.C. Lee)

Thanks for the info, I guess we were all hoping as an intermediate, N. vogelii will be a little forgiving when growing in LL condition. Oh well... mine is still a seedling.
My vogelii currently look like this, aside from tiny pitcher, it's growing slowly but ok. Attachment 1045 |

I'm aware of Fauzi's plant, his is bigger, like Jen's plant. Fauzi probably have it for a while now. All our vogelii in Malaysia probably came from him which originated from BE , thanks for reminder. :1thumbup: |
Re: Experience of N.vogelii
WOW!!! Nice vogelii. Need to add it to my wanted CPs list.

Using 100% sphagnum moss will get compacted over a preiod. occassionally loosen the media to allow for aeriation and well drain . watering inbetween drying, ensure only moist medium. 25ºC to around 32ºC was the day temp experiencing in their natural habitat. The night temp would fall to around 16ºC, very windy in the evening and very high humidity ( 80%-90% from the trip i observed ). while predominantly epiphytic they are also found growing among shady low shrubs along road banks old logging road. an upper pitcher, Pa'rabata (Kelabit highland of northern Sarawak) taken during the Mt Murud trip. http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z...u/DSC_6186.jpg ( from Jeremial Harris site, some supporting evidence of growth habitat ) http://www.coloradocarnivorousplants..._Highlands.htm note-lowest 1st pic the "hensom zhai" ( handsome guy:glare:) holding the pitchers, also notice the dry weather road besides ( those road will be very slippery and muddy during rainy season). Those are found along road banks of logging raod. Also take note 3rd column before the last- the 3rd right pic, guy climbing up a slope. Moreover most of the pitchers taken were growing against slopes of road embankment ( slopes suggested water run off freely ). |
